I was attending City College in SF nearly twenty years ago, and remember trying to pick up on the best looking girl in the cafeteria. It turned out that she had a boyfriend who said he was somehow related to the owners of Wise Surfboards. I did purchase the one and only wetsuit I ever owned from them, although I can't quite remember if it was before or after the cafeteria situation. My own memory can deceive me on subtle details but I was thrilled to hear the chapter filled with information about Ocean Beach, as I lived in the Sunset for about a year right next to the zoo.

I really enjoyed the tie in to financial markets and addiction. Other topics were discussed but I did not find them as engaging.

Maybe I fell asleep at different points while listening to this but even after finishing, I'm not sure what the theme of the story is.

Is the media acting as a medium for the government to sway public opinion in the favor of whatever politicians want to do?

Was the book written to fill us in on details left out by mainstream media about key events over the last few decades?

I'm rather confused. Good journalism should be as objective as possible. Is this book critiquing the relevant media and labeling it as subjective?

We may never know the real truth of what the message of the story was.
