Historia
Sir Ranulph Fiennes has climbed the Eiger and Mount Everest. He's crossed both Poles on foot. He's been a member of the SAS and fought a bloody guerrilla war in Oman. And yet he confesses that his fear of heights is so great that he'd rather send his wife up a ladder to clean the gutters than do it himself. In Fear, the world's greatest explorer delves into his own experiences to try to explain what fear is, how it happens and how he's overcome it so successfully.

Historia
Pulitzer Prize, Biography, 2016. Barbarian Days is William Finnegan's memoir of an obsession, a complex enchantment. Surfing only looks like a sport. To initiates it is something else entirely: a beautiful addiction, a demanding course of study, a morally dangerous pastime, a way of life.

A lot of good information with great storytelling
Revisado: 02-21-24
I was attending City College in SF nearly twenty years ago, and remember trying to pick up on the best looking girl in the cafeteria. It turned out that she had a boyfriend who said he was somehow related to the owners of Wise Surfboards. I did purchase the one and only wetsuit I ever owned from them, although I can't quite remember if it was before or after the cafeteria situation. My own memory can deceive me on subtle details but I was thrilled to hear the chapter filled with information about Ocean Beach, as I lived in the Sunset for about a year right next to the zoo.

I really enjoyed the tie in to financial markets and addiction. Other topics were discussed but I did not find them as engaging.

Historia
In this pathbreaking work, now with a new introduction, Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky show that, contrary to the usual image of the news media as cantankerous, obstinate, and ubiquitous in their search for truth and defense of justice, in their actual practice they defend the economic, social, and political agendas of the privileged groups that dominate domestic society, the state, and the global order.

I'm unclear of the message
Revisado: 10-03-23
Maybe I fell asleep at different points while listening to this but even after finishing, I'm not sure what the theme of the story is.
Is the media acting as a medium for the government to sway public opinion in the favor of whatever politicians want to do?
Was the book written to fill us in on details left out by mainstream media about key events over the last few decades?
I'm rather confused. Good journalism should be as objective as possible. Is this book critiquing the relevant media and labeling it as subjective?
We may never know the real truth of what the message of the story was.
