Historia
Miles Franklin began the candid, passionate, and contrary My Brilliant Career when she was only 16, intending for it to be the Australian answer to Jane Eyre. This thinly veiled autobiographical tale of a young girl hungering for life and love in the outback was so beyond its years when first released in 1901 that Franklin insisted it not be published again until 10 years after her death. My Brilliant Career is a coming of age story for all of the ages.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 07-11-15
What disappointed you about My Brilliant Career?
Sounds like the narrator is reading a thesis..
What could Miles Franklin have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Again the narrator.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Carrie Bickmore?
The narrator of Bryce Courtney novels or Tim Wintons narrator..
Any additional comments?
I didn't bother trying to listen to anymore after chapter four.

Historia
Katie Chandler had always heard that New York is a weird and wonderful place, but this small-town Texas gal had no idea how weird until she moved there. Everywhere she goes, she sees something worth gawking at and Katie is afraid she's a little too normal to make a splash in the big city. Working for an ogre of a boss doesn't help. Then, seemingly out of the blue, Katie gets a job offer from Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc., a company that tricks of the trade to the magic community. For MSI, Katie's ordinariness is an asset.

something about the tone
Revisado: 01-09-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would change the narrator. She is a good reader but the pitch in her voice gives me a headache for some reason.

Inspired
Revisado: 05-09-11
At last something that doesn't focus on weight loss as the only benefit to exercise but instead all the mental benefits. The first few chapters were a bit slow but after that it was great. Just what I needed to hear to get me exercising again.

Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Easy to read. Lots of action. A bit immature but good all the same. Worth a credit. :)

He is Dexter Mayhew, tall, dark and (she can't deny it) handsome. She is Emma Morley, bottled red hair, wilfully badly dressed, all principles and no action. Could this be the dawn of the rest of their lives? Or are Dex and Em living proof that - despite an unlikely beginning - men and women really can be just good friends?

I LOVED IT.
Note: I thought this was a kids book? I wouldn't really think a book about kids killing each other was suitable for children. Teenagers I guess is ok. I don't have kids..

Buy Abridged Version
Revisado: 05-17-10
Buy the abridged version as this is a bit too detailed for an audio book. First time I have said to buy Abridged version, as I travel a lot so usually for me the longer a book the better. However an Abridged version of this book would probably have had me it a 5 star.

Historia
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six. They were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry was thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future.

Not Brilliant. But worth the read anyway.
Revisado: 05-17-10
Not a bad book. I don't like the ending it was a bit bland. There was so much the author could have written to make a brilliant ending.
Worth the read but not a book to rave about.
