Historia
China - Superpower or basket case? You decide! A wide-eyed expat is detained by Beijing cops and told to sign a false confession. Will he make it out of China alive? Dueling the Dragon is a great adventure story, but this one, here narrated by the author, just happens to be true! With a journalist's eye and lively wit, LeRoy exposes the deep levels of corruption tearing at China's social fabric. You will learn of college students sold into slavery, media suppression of pollution reports, and persecution of a broadcaster just trying to do his job.

Voice and Story
Revisado: 11-12-24
Abdiel’s China biography is both entertaining and insightful on a certain era in the development of China that will never be seen again. Those years between developed and developing was a unique time in the country and Abdiel voices it from the ground floor. Not as a politician or economic specialist but a foreigner on the ground. Well written and perfectly voice. Strong recommend.

Highly Recommend to anyone of Caribbean descent or not. It’s a human story that reaches beyond cultural boundaries but at the same time is so rich with detail the genuineness of storytelling can transport readers to her world.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

The book is good. I think I need to reread, re-listen, there's a lot going on and it's very dense. So much to it. But I liked what I read.

Interesting Ideas—Disconnected
Revisado: 05-06-24
Good character work in this one. Like the Bella/Stephlana relationship. Tye story also goes from big to bigger to biggest, but doesn’t offer any answers in the end. Also the jump from space miner to (SPOILER) seems a big too large a leap. Too many ideas it feels like. I also didn’t understand how many humans there were to continue civilization. That bugged me a bit.

Very Very Good Hidden Gem
Revisado: 04-11-24
Damn near perfect, the writing, just word to word, metaphors/similies/allusions is amazing, powerful, and not purple at all. Great character development, not just for the leads but the side characters as well--very strong. The story/pacing/development is great and maybe a centimeter away from perfect. Thanks Mr. Van Wey.

Interesting ideas. Didn’t blow me away though. Characters weren’t too interesting. No big surprises. Word word word.
