Historia
In 2016, journalist Tara Henley was at the top of her game working in Canadian media. She had traveled the world, from Soweto to Bangkok and Borneo to Brooklyn, interviewing authors and community leaders, politicians and Hollywood celebrities. But when she started getting chest pains at her desk in the newsroom, none of that seemed to matter. The health crisis - not cardiac, it turned out, but anxiety - forced her to step off the media treadmill and examine her life and the stressful 21st century world around her.

The story of our generation
Revisado: 04-28-24
This story of a person overworking and then learning to focus on family relates to all of us. A very relatable story.

Great narration
Revisado: 10-28-23
This story gives a lot of context to what we read about in the 90s and 2000s in the tabloids but from Britney’s perspective. I learned so much of what really happened behind the scenes.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Great story
Revisado: 08-02-23
The story was very compelling. There are many phases in Jennette’s life that are explored. She does read it a bit quickly at times though.

Historia
Sarah Polley’s work as an actor, screenwriter, and director is celebrated for its honesty, complexity, and deep humanity. She brings all of those qualities along with her exquisite storytelling chops to these six essays. Each one captures a piece of Polley’s life as she remembers it, while at the same time examining the fallibility of memory, the mutability of reality in the mind, and the possibility of experiencing the past anew, as the person you are now but were not then. As Polley writes, the past and present are in a “reciprocal pressure dance.”

Great voice acting!
Revisado: 12-23-22
It’s rare that the story is good and the voice acting is good. I assume because Sarah Polley was an actress, her voice work was on point!
Great essays but I wish it were a bit longer!
