2 out 3 decent stories
Revisado: 12-15-24
I bought this title mainly for the Iron Druid short story. As usual, it was excellent. The D.S. Dawson story was ok but I hated the Chuck Wendig story. I couldn't finish it. I didn't Care for his story in the previous anthology either.

very good conclusion
Revisado: 11-17-22
this turned out to be a really good series. the overall plot of the three books was an excellent mystery. I really enjoyed the unconventional characters. They were not typical of most period romance books. it was a refreshing change. My only complaint was sometimes it was hard to tell which character was speaking. The narrator didn't make enough distinction.

I'm really getting into this series. I thought that Justin made for a very interesting character being a medium with conflicted morality. The mystery is also well done. I'm looking forward to the next part.

Historia
Lodging-house keeper Clem Talleyfer prefers a quiet life. He's happy with his hobbies, his work - and especially with his lodger Rowley Green, who becomes a friend over their long fireside evenings together. If only neat, precise, irresistible Mr. Green were interested in more than friendship. Rowley just wants to be left alone - at least until he meets Clem, with his odd, charming ways and his glorious eyes. Two quiet men, lodging in the same house, coming to an understanding...it could be perfect.

an interesting twist on a Victorian romance
Revisado: 10-30-22
Overall I enjoyed the story very much. I thought the romance between the two main characters was really sweet and their friends were very interesting and caring. I enjoyed how the author conveyed the main character's thoughts. I also found that having a main character who seemed a bit autistic was a really interesting twist to the story. I thought the author handled it very well in describing how ordinary events bothered or distressed both Clem and Rowley and how they dealt with what appeared to be sensory processing issues. I made for a very enjoyable story. I think my one complaint was with the narrator, I had trouble occasionally distinguishing who the speaker in the story was supposed to be.

Very fun
Revisado: 10-22-22
I think this is one of the more fun books in the set of three. I really enjoyed the interaction between Howl and Sophie. It's sort of a I love you but I want to beat you relationship. You can tell he pokes at her for fun. Charmaine is a bit annoying at times. I think it's a bit unbelievable that she's so uneducated about some basic things. however I still really enjoyed the book and thought it had a fun mystery.

overall a good story
Revisado: 10-16-22
I read a few other reviews of this story and saw people's complaints about the orientalism and fat phobia in the book. I think it is a rather stereotypical portrayal of the two fat nieces as seen in many fairy tales. Being fat is being shown as undesirable. I don't really care for that small section of the book. I guess at least they got a happy ending in the story, but still being fat was shown as a bad trait along with several other annoying traits the girls had. As to the complaints about orientalism, I'm not as well versed in that. it seemed a bit stereotypical of Arab cultures, but it is a made-up country. I don't know how well the author researched Arab tales such as the Arabian nights stories, but it definitely seems to be referenced. Abdullah's way of speaking and flattery is pretty darn annoying. It's hard to say if the author did this as and over exaggeration, to be a character flaw or if they truly meant it to be a portrayal of how they thought Arab people should act. I get the impression it's satire or over exaggeration for the sake of a fairy tale. I haven't read any of the Arabian nights stories to know if this is how characters speak in those tales and if the author of this story was trying to model hers after that.
Despite these flaws I think it's a pretty good story, it was definitely an enjoyable sequel to Howl's Moving Castle. One theme I thought was interesting, that turned up at the end was how some of the very good characters ended up saying they enjoyed being bad. it gives me the impression that the author is speaking against the overly good versus overly evil characters found in traditional fairy tales.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

enjoyable story but I don't like the narrator
Revisado: 09-13-22
I've read the story in book format previously. it's still such a wonderful story and I really enjoyed it. I am not very fond of the narrator. I especially don't like how he reads Hermione's line. sometimes he really draws out certain lines and they sound funny. I think they could do with a better narrator.

Historia
Once upon a time, a princess slept in a magical tower cloaked in thorns and roses. When she woke, she found no Prince Charming, only a surfeit of hair and grotesquely long fingernails - which was, honestly, better than some creep who acted without consent. She cut off her long braids and used them to escape. But she kept the beard because it made a great disguise. This is not a story about finding true love’s kiss - it's a story about finding yourself. On a pirate ship. Where you belong.

Another fun romp
Revisado: 07-18-22
I really enjoyed all three of "The Tales of Pell" books. The puns are funny and I enjoy the cultural references. I think Luke Daniels does and excellent job narrating. the only thing I felt was kind of annoying in the performance was the parrot drawing out all of the R's. it feels like it really lengthened the book. overall it was a fun conclusion to the series.
