Historia
Shining Smith stands on the brink of achieving her goals, and yet now she could lose everything. The presidents of four motorcycle clubs are coming to claim blood sacrifice and to ink her with motorcycle club tats. Her new roadhouse and its charter have to meet their approval or the roadhouse has no future, and neither does Shining. An injured kid shows up at Smith’s Junk and Scrap, but collapses before he can speak. A note arrives containing a warning and a plea for help, addressed by someone who knows Shining’s most intimate secrets—her history, her plans, and the names of her friends.

super fun book
Revisado: 02-24-25
i love this whole series. it's a great sci-fi/post apocalyptic book series and this one is no different. shining is up to her old shinnanigans, getting into trouble and saving the day. It does leave off in a cliff hanger, though, so I'm anxiously awaiting news of the next book!
as always, the narrator does a great job with it all.

heartwrenching
Revisado: 02-14-25
such a lovely book. the pieces are all there and slowly come together.
it might be a bit confusing at it not only jumps from character to character, but also timeliness to timeline. you have to piece them together in your head to keep them straight, but when you do it's such a heartbreakingly beautiful story. with entwined characters, lives and loves, this book is a wonderful example of how separate people can connect through time.

Historia
Ellen Gould White (1827 - 1915) was a cofounder of what later became known as the Seventh-day Adventist Church. As one of the five volumes of her Conflict of the Ages series, The Desire of Ages is a book about the life and significance of Jesus Christ. White does not relate the story of Jesus in chronological order, but by theme. The book begins with the prophecy about the name, Immanuel, and proceeds with the birth of Jesus and his later life and ministry, including the miracles of Christ, his teachings to his disciples, and his death, resurrection, and ascension.

Heavy accent makes listening difficult
Revisado: 01-02-25
This book is amazing and uplifting. The narrator did a really great job. problem is, her accent is so heavy it's going to be hard for Americans to understand what's being said. I eventually got used to it, but it took a while.

I couldn't wait for this book to be over.
Revisado: 10-03-24
You know when a book has a lot of cool elements and you WANT it to be good, but it isn't? Yeah. This is that kind of book. it's a great story idea, but it reads like a rough draft. there are SO many inconsistencies, things that are made to be important only for them to never be mentioned again, and things that sound like typos. everything is left to fate. everything draws the characters because of magic. the amazing genius strategies seem like they were written by a 9 yo.
it just wasn't a good book. I made myself listen to them all in hopes it would get better, but it just didn't. revise it. try again.

unbelievable. lacks realism.
Revisado: 09-10-24
It is a decent story, but it doesn't make sense. The main character just happens to become best friends with everyone she meets, go on dates, and help solve a mystery all in the first week of moving to a new place. the conversations are stiff and formal.
the only saving grace for this was the narrator doing a pretty decent job with the accents.
I wouldn't listen to it again.

wasted money
Revisado: 07-18-24
this book was so full of inconsistencies, lingo that wasn't age appropriate for the characters (a 17/18 yo who says harken?), and constant corny references to other books that it was incredibly hard to listen too. there must be at least 18 references to other books. it made the book feel like the author didn't have any original ideas. the setting and characters consistently felt off. the author would establish a setting (like a waterfall with a dry alcove), then turn around and use the setting contrary to what was first described (waterfall was inexplicably in-between the characters and one of them wasn't in the lake on the other side!?)
the only saving grace was a psudo-interesting, but predictable, story line and the narration. wonderful work from the narrator. I'm just sorry it was with this book. 😞

This was an amazing book!
There is a reason this book is a classic. The drama and intrigue was simply captivating. I loved how the minds of the characters worked.
I loved the narration, too! I wouldn't have known how to pronounce half the names in this book, but the narrator did an amazing job!

Historia
No one survived the last battle unscathed. Flint is angry at the world, Jaxon is turning into something I don't recognize, and Hudson has put up a wall I'm not sure I'll ever break through. Now war is coming, and we're not ready. We're going to need an army to have any hope of winning. But first, there are questions about my ancestors that need answers. Answers that might just reveal who the real monster is among us. And that's saying something in a world filled with bloodthirsty vampires, immortal gargoyles, and an ancient battle between two gods.

already major issues
Revisado: 11-05-23
I've only been listening to this book for a couple hours and there's already so much wrong with the story. there are so many inconsisties.
I hate quitting a series, but I might have to with this one. it's driving me bonkers.
***Spoiler***
in the last book it was made plain (sorta) that flint lost his leg, but in the start of this book, she's waiting to see if he'll REALLY lose his leg... like... wut?
Also, they TRIED to bring a body back at the end of the last book, but he couldn't reform because he wasn't alive, so he turned into the "light" but in the beginning of this book they're calling his parents so his body doesn't disintegrate.... like... too late? he's light, so...
there's too much unnecessary drama and insecurities that I was pretty sure we moved past. there's still to many F words that are out of place.
The name change is confusing, the story line keeps slipping or getting unfocused, the repetitious phrases are only getting worse, the amount of characters who have unlimited powers then keep struggling with everything... like, seriously. this book series could have ended in the middle of book 3.
it's just bad.

interesting story.
Revisado: 11-03-23
This is the 3rd book in the series.
It's a decent series with appropriate plot twists and an interesting story line and good character development.
I take issue with the unnecessary swearing. 😒 it would have been so much more enjoyable without that.
This book doesn't feel like it was written by a beginner writer, but it certainly doesn't feel like an experienced writer either. the use of certain phrases gets super repetitious. if I never hear the word "unfathomable" again, I think I'll be just fine. she also says things like "for one second. two..." constantly. whenever anyone asks the main character if she's ready her answer is always "not even close."
repetitive things like this really detract from the enjoyment of the story. it makes it feel like it was stamped instead of thought out, if that makes sense.
the narrator has done a good job portraying good emotions of the character and gives us a good sense of setting. she has a few odd pronunciations that I've snickered at, but other than that, I really liked her performance.
Over all, I do like the series and this book was good. I'd like to see a revised version of it in the future where some of the bumps are ironed out and some of the phrasing changed, but that just doesn't happen with books. lol.
