Historia
In the heart of China's Sichuan province, amid the terraced hills of the Yangtze River valley, lies the remote town of Fuling. Like many other small cities in this ever-evolving country, Fuling is heading down a new path of change and growth, which came into remarkably sharp focus when Peter Hessler arrived as a Peace Corps volunteer, marking the first time in more than half a century that the city had an American resident.

A fascinating different experience. loved it!
Revisado: 02-10-25
I love listening to other Americans' experience in China (I taught in a major Chinese city in the 2000's) and this book about a teacher going to a remote Southern Chinese town was really interesting because of a few similarities but mostly huge differences. The author does a great job introducing us to all of the various people he met and spent time with, making me nostalgic for the friendships I made. I can also see the ways China has changed so fast, but also some things never change. The only thing that bothered me was the narrator's repeated cringey pronunciation of common words every foreigner in China learns the first week -"Waiguoren" and "Xiaojie" TAOYUAN! I'm going to listen to Other Rivers right away!

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Would make a fun Space RPG
Revisado: 01-19-24
This is aa fun light space adventure that scratches a lot of my adolescent space adventure itches I've never grown out of. Fun personalities, especially the AI. This would be a good set up for a fun space RPG that I would play.

Huge payoffs! for a lot of long set up plotlines.
Revisado: 10-01-21
This isn't the last book of the series, but this book really pulls together a lot of threads together that have been hanging out for a while and gives most of them (IMO) very satisfying payoffs. I feel like Jordan did a great job of resolving a lot of things in a way that allows for Brandon Sanderson to conclude the series in the next three installments when events in the series really go into HIGH GEAR
I've seen some reviews complaining about a few audio issues. For me, unlike previous books in this series, I found the recording volume a bit too low. My hearing isn't great and I listen to audiobooks through my car stereo. I had to turn my car volume up to max and still had trouble hearing this book. I tried with other books as well podcasts and apps and don't have this issue so I think the problem might be with this particular recording. I was able to get through it, though, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
