Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Historia
Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.”

Amazingly entertaining history!
Revisado: 12-03-10
I wish high school history was like this! In addition to being absolutely chock full of an incredible amount of historical detail, woven masterfully into a continuous narrative of fascinating, personal stories, listening to At Home has made me extremely appreciative that I am living my life in the 21st century. By far the best book I've listened to (or read) this year! Highly recommended.

Smutty But Funny
Revisado: 09-20-10
I don't know how he does it, but John Waters pushes the envelope further in each chapter he writes. Without a doubt, this is the most vulgar book I've ever read, but also very humorous and honest. Waters promotes, even celebrates what mainstream America disdains, and does it with profound joy and insight.

Superb story and reading!
Revisado: 12-11-09
Although I've known the story of "A Christmas Carol" since I was a child, my knowledge of it came mostly from Mr Magoo and Disney; I had never actually read the book until now. This audio reading was a special treat: The story itself is excellent in all its descriptive detail, and Tim Curry does an outstanding job as the reader. There were many times I had to remind myself that all the characters were 'played' by one actor. Highly recommend listening to this book!

Fascinating story, well researched and tastefully written. I felt like I knew each of the characters personally. Also the narrator was superb! He 'acted' out all of the parts with ease.

What a wonderful true story! An incredible tale of how the author and her siblings learn to cope and survive a most difficult childhood created by the shortcomings, yet good intentions of their parents. My 11 year old son is listening to it now. Makes us thankful for what we have.

Best audio book ever!
Revisado: 05-02-07
This was a fascinating and wonderful book! It is the number one book on my personal list of favorite audio books.
The author, herself - in her smooth, soothing voice - narrates the book. This makes it all the more personal. You feel as if you are sitting with the author somewhere in a cafe and she is telling you her life's story.
Gilbert's message is excellent: make peace with where you are, be forgiving of yourself and others, quiet your talking mind, and open yourself to the JOY which is rightfully yours. Superb!

Historia
In this luminous memoir, a true American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. His body of work is arguably the most morally significant in cinematic history, and the power and influence of that work are indicative of the character of the man behind the many storied roles. Sidney Poitier here explores these elements of character and personal values to take his own measure: as a man, as a husband and a father, and as an actor.

Poitier Bares His Soul
Revisado: 02-14-07
Very good story telling. I especially enjoyed hearing about the author's early life and how he handled the many challenges he faced. Sidney Poitier reads the audio version in such a way that it sounds like he's telling you a personal story, not just reading a book that he wrote. And it's obvious he's having a great time doing it! The last chapters seem a little wordy, but overall I am happy to recommend this book. Poitier is an honest, introspective man, who is constantly learning and growing, even to this very day. Good job.
