Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

A weepie from start to finish. Slavish to Little Women. Neither original nor deep. Too long as well.

Historia
Edie is stumbling her way through her 20s - sharing a subpar apartment in Bushwick, clocking in and out of her admin job, making a series of inappropriate sexual choices. She is also haltingly, fitfully giving heat and air to the art that simmers inside her. And then she meets Eric, a digital archivist with a family in New Jersey, including an autopsist wife who has agreed to an open marriage - with rules.

Ambitious effort. Well worth the time. Lovely twists on usual approaches to issues of "finding"oneself.

Historia
Joan has been searching for her missing husband, Victor, for nearly a year - ever since that terrible night they’d had their first serious argument hours before he mysteriously vanished. Her Métis family has lived in their tightly knit rural community for generations, but no one keeps the old ways...until they have to. That moment has arrived for Joan. One morning, grieving and severely hungover, Joan hears a shocking sound coming from inside a revival tent in a gritty Walmart parking lot. It is the unmistakable voice of Victor.

Non-stop action mixed with touchy-feely. Not convinced it’s a perfect combination. But mostly an entertaining read.

Historia
You are a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail: Your boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. You can't say yes - it would be too awkward - and you can't say no - it would look like defeat. On your desk are a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world. Question: How do you arrange to skip town? Answer: You accept them all.

Less Is a Lot More
Revisado: 08-06-18
I went in somewhat skeptical. The premise seemed constructed to belittle the protagonist by placing him in a host of awkward settings in a number of foreign lands. There is some of that but the humor is most often gentle and really quite funny. The author manages through the retelling of Less's misadventures to increase the reader's sympathy and affection. In the end the reader is truly warmed by the novel's resolution. A sweet read and worthy of the award it won.Since there are no half stars I refrained from a perfect score simply to indicate that the book doesn't rise to the level of excellence I reserve for the truly greatest novels.
