Historia
London: 1968. Liz Houghton is languishing as an obituary writer at a London newspaper when a young girl’s disappearance captivates the city. If Liz can break the story, it’s her way into the newsroom. She already has a scoop: Her best friend Marisa is a police officer who is assigned to the case. Liz follows Marisa to Dorset, where they make another disturbing discovery. Over two decades earlier, three girls disappeared while evacuating from London. One was found murdered in the woods near a train line. The other two were never seen again.

Too complicated
Revisado: 03-12-25
Maybe I am just old but I had trouble following the plot. Too many characters. Too many twists. Too many English towns. Great narration.

Historia
Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

Hard to understand
Revisado: 07-01-23
In the end the story became interesting but I could not understand much of the dialogue. Much was spoken with foreign accents I had a lot of trouble with. Many references were made to, I think, street names, place names and character names that were unintelligible. Following the story line was quite difficult.

Historia
On September 11, 2018, Navy SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher - a highly-decorated combat veteran with nine deployments to war zones in Africa, Afghanistan, and Iraq - was arrested for war crimes at the TBI medical clinic where he was receiving treatment. His incarceration was the culmination of a year-long whisper campaign started by a group of disgruntled members of his SEAL platoon. While heavily covered in the media, the full story of how a war hero was railroaded and nearly sent to prison for life for crimes he didn't commit has never been told.

Great story. Horrible narration.

The author and other non-professionals read the book. I was constantly distracted by the poorly placed pauses and lack of smoothness in the reading. Too bad.

Historia
When Joe Pickett is asked to join the rescue efforts for the victim of a startling grizzly attack, he reluctantly leaves his district behind. One survivor of the grizzly's rampage tells a bizarre story, but just as Joe begins to suspect the attack is not what it seems, he is brought home by an emergency on his own turf. Someone has targeted a prominent local judge, shooting at him from a seemingly impossible distance. While the judge was not hit, his wife is severely wounded, and it is up to Joe to find answers - and the shooter.

Great story. Technically accurate.
Revisado: 10-30-21
As usual a great Joe Pickett story with the addition of correct information about long range shooting. I do some long range shooting myself and was impressed. For example, most people don’t realize that you need to factor in the rotation of the earth when shooting over a thousand yards.

The resistance movement is tasked with silencing her by any means necessary - including assassination.

Good story, too long
Revisado: 01-11-21
The gist of this story was good. It had sympathetic characters and an engaging plot. The narrative was overly descriptive and thus had me rolling my eyes a lot. It needed a spirited editing hand.

Part text book, part heart warming stories
Revisado: 01-30-20
This book is about the challenge of addressing neglected tropical diseases around the world that affect over a billion people. It is, on the one hand, a text book on the effort to help those that suffer with these diseases and, on the other hand, a wonderful collection of stories about the patients and the people who are working so hard to alleviate suffering. It is heart warming - and educational. And, the narrator is as good as any I have heard in the 300 plus recorded books to which I have listened. I just wish I had books like this when I was studying for my Master of Public Health degree.

Any additional comments?
A great reader does not save a weak story. This book had 10 hours of story crammed into 22 hours of reading. I can't believe I read the whole thing.
