Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

You can pay to get the shit scared out of you during Halloween season. Just like the people who suffered there for 79 years were scared every fucking day. Help preserve the truth of what happened there and shut down the ability of private businesses to capitalize on the oppression of disabled people.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Whimsical. Dark humor. Absurd. Good read. I loved the historical aspect of it all. Read it.

Historia
In this poignant and disturbing memoir of lost innocence, coercion, survival, and healing, Dianne Lake chronicles her years with Charles Manson, revealing for the first time how she became the youngest member of his Family and offering new insights into one of the 20th century's most notorious criminals and life as one of his "girls". While much has been written about Charles Manson, this riveting account from an actual Family member is a chilling portrait that recreates in vivid detail one of the most horrifying chapters in modern American history.

Terrible reading, got dry
Revisado: 03-02-24
Read by the author who has zero charisma. It's monotone
and i felt like some of the first 75% of the book was quite slow. It is a fascinating story but I wanted to see more balance of time spent on the trial experience for her as spent on the time in the cult. So many details in the leading up to meeting Manson and the time with him but then it gets thin.

If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

Wish he would have stopped telling me to go buy the book. I paid for the book here. Don't shame me for getting a different format. Give me the pdf with pictures like every other author. Kinda got old. Like my money isn't green.

When did you last hang out with Jim, Pam, Dwight, Michael, and the rest of Dunder Mifflin? It might have been back in 2013, when the series finale aired...or it might have been last night, when you watched three episodes in a row. But either way, long after the show first aired, it’s more popular than ever, and fans have only one problem - what to watch, or listen to, next. Fortunately, writer Andy Greene has that answer. In his brand-new oral history, The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s, Greene takes listeners behind the scenes.

Don't do it
Revisado: 12-23-23
Please do not read this book if you are expecting erotica or a BDSM story. This is a story of abuse; of Stockholm’s Syndrome and of such far fetched plot development that it just is not worth reading. It is too long and goes into mundane detail of aspects of the protagonist’s life that don’t really move the story along. The moment that propels the climax involves an action that is not believable for the character. Everything is too perfectly arranged. Also, did I mention that it is a love story between a woman and her abuser??? Just no.

Historia
Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race”, a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of Black women and men - bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a Black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son.

This book is not for me.
Revisado: 08-15-23
But I am better for having witnessed it. I haven't felt am understanding of the black experience in our country so much as in this work of genius. I will never fully understand as someone who thinks/thought they were white, but I think I am much closer now. I could relate to the way Coates described the body as a means of control and oppression. Disability has some parallel issues when viewed through this similar lens.

Great insight and information. Vain human.
Revisado: 07-27-23
Zane's knowledge is stellar and he makes some fantastic arguments that are long overdue. Respect to him for that.
The amount of time he spent boating about who he's slept with and how many people is just annoying. But the most irritating thing was the little comments he makes about how the reader probably won't have partners as high-profile or simply as many as him is just obnoxious.
He's a diva who embodies some of the most toxic traits of many cis-white-males in the queer community.

Stellar retelling of one of the best moments in Philly history
Revisado: 05-19-23
Sal Pal wrote a book that was "all Philly."
The narration was terrible. Especially the voices he did for people of color... So many problems. The guy seemed like he had never heard any of these people speak and mispronounced several names.
