Historia
Ex-detective Jackson Brodie is staving off a bad case of midlife malaise when he is called to a sleepy Yorkshire town, and the seemingly tedious matter of a stolen painting. But one theft leads to another, including the disappearance of a valuable Turner from Burton Makepeace, home to Lady Milton and her family. Once a magnificent country house, Burton Makepeace has now partially been converted into a hotel, hosting Murder Mystery weekends.

Historia
Not far from London, there is a village. This village belongs to the people who live in it and to those who lived in it hundreds of years ago. It belongs to England's mysterious past and its confounding present. It belongs to Mad Pete, the grizzled artist. To ancient Peggy, gossiping at her gate. To families dead for generations, and to those who have only recently moved here. But it also belongs to Dead Papa Toothwort who has woken from his slumber in the woods. Dead Papa Toothwort, who is listening to them all.

Historia
From the Orange Prize-winning, internationally best-selling author of The Song of Achilles comes the powerful story of the mythological witch Circe, inspired by Homer's Odyssey. In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe has neither the look nor the voice of divinity and is scorned and rejected by her kin. Increasingly isolated, she turns to mortals for companionship, leading her to discover a power forbidden to the gods: witchcraft.

Very abridged- so much of the story is lost
Revisado: 07-09-19
This version is considerably shorter than the complete book and that is unfortunate. Quick to listen to and well performed but definitely not recommended.

Historia
Fiona Maye is a High Court judge in London presiding over cases in family court. She is fiercely intelligent, well respected, and deeply immersed in the nuances of her particular field of law. Often the outcome of a case seems simple from the outside, the course of action to ensure a child's welfare obvious. But the law requires more rigor than mere pragmatism, and Fiona is expert in considering the sensitivities of culture and religion when handing down her verdicts.

I remember reading about the Biafran war - but nothing was ever presented from this perspective. I cared about the characters and their fate and wondered how such rifts can be healed. Very well narrated.

This book is brave, difficult and inspiring. The difficulty lies in the experiences described and the powerlessness experienced. The bravery and inspiration arises from Alan Cummings responses in coming to terms with this trauma. This is a book worth reading.

Some stories more engaging than others

I was rather disappointed with this collection - initially at least. There are some good stories along and others that are less engaging. Maybe my expectations - based on previous Neil Gaiman books - were too high.
