Historia
Originally distributed as a self-published booklet, A Season in Hell by Arthur Rimbaud quickly established him to be the "first punk" and a visonary mentor to the Beat poets for both his recklessness and fiery poetry according to famous poet of the Beat Generation, Allen Ginsberg.

Good read

The issue with poetry is how you read it. This reader was involved, but in a moderate way, so that he doesn’t steal the focus from the verse.

In Slough House, the London outpost for disgraced spies of MI5, memories are stirring, all of them bad. Catherine Standish is buying booze again, Louisa Guy is raking over the ashes of lost love, and new recruit Lech Wicinski, whose sins make him outcast even among the slow horses, is determined to discover who destroyed his career, even if he tears his life apart in the process. Kills characters with much gusto than grr martin. And it‘s the fact that they are sidelined survivors which makes their death so much more painful. The reader gets time to know the character, to see him/her at his/her worst and best and then, when the same reader gets closer to liking or just getting accustomed with said character… well. And somehow, Taverner survives.

The one with the total perspective vortex
Revisado: 02-17-24
There is a constant despair running beneath the mad humor of this book. But the waters are deep, and the humor is strong.
This is the one with the talking veal and the mid management ship, and also where dead for tax purposes was first heard of. Read and enjoy.

Historia
Over the past decades, a healthy appreciation for the culture and heritage of minorities has transformed into an obsession with group identity in all its forms. A new ideology - which Yascha Mounk terms the 'identity synthesis' - seeks to put each citizen's matrix of identities at the heart of social, cultural and political life. This, he argues, is The Identity Trap. Mounk traces the intellectual origin of these ideas. He tells the story of how they were able to win tremendous power over the past decade.

Good, Balanced Work
Revisado: 11-19-23
A defense of the liberal principle, so easily put aside today in the name of “nobler” ideas. The sources are good, the tone is adequate, the conclusions are sound. It has also a multifaceted approach.

Historia
Over two millennia ago, a Greek philosopher had a number of wondrous insights that paved the way to cosmology, physics, geography, meteorology, and biology, setting in motion a new way of seeing the world. In this elegant work, acclaimed physicist Carlo Rovelli brings to light the importance of Anaximander's overlooked legacy to modern science. He examines Anaximander as a scientist interested in shedding light on the deep nature of scientific thinking, which Rovelli locates in his rebellious ability to reimagine the world again and again.

This book is a joy to listen to. It covers with kindness the current theories in physics and philosophy, making everything sound simple and reasonable. As a reader of Popper, I am so glad yo have his approach to knowledge underline and put to use in the field of physics.

Historia
A year after Eli and Dag survived their second encounter with a monster, things are finally going well. Really well—as far as Eli is concerned, anyway. He’s lost weight. His energy is up. His hair is on point. There are the little things, like the occasional flare-ups of temper and the urge to murder the kids down the street, but that’s just part of living by teenagers. Right?

The End Is Near
Revisado: 01-30-23
I received an advance copy of this book. I listend it and below is my frank review.
Eli and Dag were brought together by a monster. Now the thing that allowed the said monster into the world is found and the two MCs must face enemies, friends, and themselves in order to defeat it.
The dialogues are as spirited as in the previous books, and Dag’s parents have quite a significant place in the storyline, which - for the reader/listener of previous books - is a standalone argument to read/listen to the final installment.

Historia
Peter Guillam, staunch colleague and disciple of George Smiley of the British Secret Service, is living out his old age on the family farmstead in Brittany when a letter summons him to London. The reason? His Cold War past has come back to claim him. Intelligence operations that were once the toast of secret London and involved such characters as Alec Leamas, Jim Prideaux, George Smiley and Peter Guillam himself are to be scrutinised under disturbing criteria by a generation with no memory of the Cold War.

A Book about a Different Time
Revisado: 01-04-23
The world has lost the edges this story is about. The communist ideology died an almost peaceful death, and its excesses got lost in the capitalist reconstruction. Now the only inevitable thing appears to be capitalism.
But the time described in the book and the mentalities described therein were real, as such the reading of this book is useful.

Historia
After 1989, capitalism has successfully presented itself as the only realistic political-economic system - a situation that the bank crisis of 2008, far from ending, actually compounded. The audiobook analyses the development and principal features of this capitalist realism as a lived ideological framework. Using examples from politics, films, fiction, work, and education, it argues that capitalist realism colours all areas of contemporary experience.

Il est admis que "1984" et "La Ferme des animaux" d'Orwell permettent de penser les dictatures du XXe siècle. Je pose l'hypothèse qu'ils permettent également de concevoir les dictatures de toujours.

Orwell explained for those who didn’t read him
Revisado: 12-03-22
Onfray proposes a detailed lecture of both 1984 and the Animals‘ Farm and how these two pieces reflect in the present. The final chapter contains a sharp critique of the philosophical movement following 1968, including Foucault.
