Historia
One day, a cataclysmic event occurs: all of the white people in America walk into the nearest body of water. A year later, Charlie Brunton is a Black man living in an entirely new world. Having served time in prison for a wrongful conviction, he’s now a professor of electric and solar power systems at Howard University when he receives a call from someone he wasn’t even sure existed: his daughter Sidney, a nineteen-year-old left behind by her white mother and step-family.

A thought provoking book that makes you delve deep into what could be and a desire to see a transformation for Black people in reality.

Couldn't finish. Even on low volume, the passionate reading was too much. Didn't care for the storyline either.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Read the book. Don't listen to this audio. The profanity is overdone and inauthentic.

Historia
In 1960, Ishmael Reed, then an aspiring young writer, interviewed Malcolm X for a local radio station in Buffalo, and the encounter cost Reed his job and changed his life. In Malcolm and Me, Reed, the author of such classic novels as Mumbo Jumbo and the winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, reveals a side of Malcolm X the public has never seen before, and explores how the civil rights firebrand influenced his own views on working and living and speaking out, and left a mark on generations of artists and activists.

Malcolm X was tangential to this meandering mess. If you want further insight into Malcolm X, this isn't it.

Historia
Wyclef Jean is one of the most influential voices in hip-hop. He rocketed to fame in the 1990s with the Fugees, whose multiplatinum album, The Score, would prove a landmark in music history, winning two Grammys and going on to become one of the best-selling hip-hop albums of all time. In Purpose, Wyclef recounts his path to fame from his impoverished childhood in "Baby Doc" Duvalier's Haiti and the mean streets of Brooklyn and Newark to the bright lights of the world stage.

Good Listen
Revisado: 10-22-12
Any additional comments?
Overall a good story and an easy listen. There were some entertaining parts. Wyclef Jean's personal arrogance, which is on full display, is a definite turn off. At a number of points, I questioned if I would listen to the end. The perception he portrays is the one that he truly believes. I'd bet my last however, that many who really know him may not see him in the same light.

Still, violent death is inescapable—even here, in the apparent sanctuary of the Literary and Historical Society, where one obsessive academic’s quest for answers will lead Gamache down a dark path.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Louise Penny has done it again. I absolutely love this series. The character development is so carefully done that you are drawn in to the lives of the characters and feel like a part of Three Pines. Can't wait for the next story featuring Gamache.

Awesome
Revisado: 03-02-10
I have read all of the Three Pines mysteries and this one was as powerful as the others. Louise Penny weaves wonderful characters and an intricate story line that keeps the reader enthralled. The narrator also does an awesome job. Waiting breathlessly for the next Three Pines installment.
