Ok story until the accident
Revisado: 04-06-25
Where do I begin? This book started out ok, but somewhere it took a turn and not in a good way.
I know the author spent many hours working on this book and I don’t want to take away from that, but this book could’ve been so much shorter. I finished it because I felt that I had already gone far enough so I had to see it through. But after a certain point it just became more and more ridiculous.
The premise of the book could’ve worked but the story just spiraled out of control and I only continued listening so I wouldn’t be a quitter.
If you don’t like clowns, dolls or puppets don’t listen to this book. If you do, give it a shot.

Historia
Nya can’t remember the last time she felt safe. The rundown rental house didn’t seem so bad at first. But now, someone is stealing her food. Rattling her bedroom doorknob. Digging through her belongings. Each night brings more disturbing incidents. And each night, Nya is more convinced that it’s not an intruder. She suspects the culprit is hiding in plain sight: her peculiar roommate-of-necessity, Sidney.

Ok listen
Revisado: 03-30-25
I did not like the narrator and the depth of medical terminology. I get that Nya was a med student but most of us readers aren’t and details like the different layers of skin like subcutaneous fat were more than needed for the average listener. I didn’t like the pronunciations for the Spanish words, it sounded forced. The overall story was ok, nothing caught me by surprise.

Historia
Penny hates the outdoors, but when her boyfriend, Jared, plans a romantic weekend getaway in the woods, she decides to tag along. The pair drive to a remote Kentucky campground with a strange and sordid history. Within the confines of the Swan Creek State Park are the ruins of a town abandoned under terrifying circumstances in the 19th century. The town of Newsom's Landing had been the site of the last-known witch trial in US history, and the ghost of its defendant, the infamous Ellie Pomeroy, is said to still linger.

Great story and Narrator - language sucks
Revisado: 02-21-24
I liked the story overall and the narrator was easy to listen to. My main complaint about this book is the language. The language that the author uses reads more like a piece of Poe literature rather than a book that is modern day. It was more frustrating that in between all of the Poe language there were words like "hella" thrown in, which really seemed to not fit. Also the main characters were supposedly young (seemingly late 20's early 30's I'd guess) so for the writer to have them use those pretentious and out of place words is kind of disconnected to me.
Other than that I liked the story. Still worth a credit, just be prepared.

Normally, not even drunk on a bet would Violet Parker go to Slagton, a creepy ghost town inhabited by those too stubborn - or deranged - to leave. But a certain bullheaded Deadwood detective has a problem - his informant from Slagton has gone missing. When Violet is shanghaied into taking a hunting trip to the ghost town to search for the missing snitch, she stumbles into trouble that will take more than a double-barreled shotgun to escape. The Best Book of the Series So Far
Revisado: 08-25-23
So far, this is the best book in this series. There was a lot more clarity given to the Sparky’s abilities and mission. Although some of the phrases the author uses are repetitive, she says “my Honda”, “my breath held” and a few others over and over. I also think the whole Tish and Gomez Adams bits are lame. I do however like the fact that all of the sex scenes have been cut down. I honestly don’t think they were needed at all. But definitely at this stage in the series, give it a rest, we get it Vi and Doc are in love and we know what lovers do - get back to the main plot.
I do like that the narrator gives each character a great voice, although I’m having a hard time picturing them in my head the way they are described. I see Vi with hair like she stuck her finger in a socket they way they describe it. Although I’m sure that’s not what her head of curls is supposed to look like.
Overall this book is the best so far. Hoping there is more action in the next books to come and the series eventually closes with a great ending. This isn’t a series you can just pick up anywhere, you’d have to start from book 1 and just power through lol.

Overall good read/listen - with steamy scenes
Revisado: 07-28-23
I’m on the 3rd installation of the series. Overall I love them. It’s funny, and interesting enough to keep my attention, while also being relatable for the most part. What I don’t like is that she keeps saying “bronco” every 5 seconds and lastly the drawn out sex scenes lol. Not that they are so detailed, but they just drag on and seem unnecessary. Sure give us the beginning, “he slid me over and kissed my neck…..” and then go to the next chapter. I don’t need 10 minutes of it. I’m more interested in the murder/mystery/supernatural aspects. But it’s my fault for not reading the description in full before listening.
Overall still a good listen if you’re having a problem deciding on a book. It’s also a plus that the series is part of the Audible Plus catalog. But I’d probably find it credit worthy too.

Boring listen
Revisado: 02-05-23
For time this book started out interesting. But then kind of drug on for hours. For me it started to be too confusing, but I wanted to power through. In the end it was lack luster, I guess because I was wanting the book to be something other than it was.
If you’re into psychology, this may be a good fiction read for you. If not, and you’re looking for a good thriller/mystery - this isn’t it.

Boring and predictable
Revisado: 11-28-22
This book dragged on. It was very anti-climactic. I had it figured out pretty much from the beginning. I get the message, but it took way too long to get there.

It was ok
Revisado: 05-26-21
This book was ok. There were times when I realized I was listening but not paying attention, but wasn’t interested enough to rewind. The narrator was somewhat monotone and it kind of made it drag. There never seemed like an “aha” moment, even though Jenny figures it out and all, it just sounded so blah as it was happening.

Just Meh For Me
Revisado: 11-02-20
I was hoping to really like this book. It had been on my audible wish list for a while. It started out ok, I was expecting more from it. It was just a ho-hum story for me. There wasn't anything that took me by surprise, nor was it gory enough for me. I'm always in search of a great book that will give me goosebumps, but I'm still searching.
I also did not enjoy the narrator. He was too proper and polished (I know, I know), and his voice was very "Nicholas Cage".
Not a terrible book if you need something to pass the time, but definitely not my favorite.

Fairy-tale romances end with a wedding and the fairy tales don't get complicated. In this book, celebrated writer Mr. Fox can't stop himself from killing off the heroines of his novels, and neither can his wife, Daphne. It's not until Mary, his muse, comes to life and transforms him from author into subject that his story begins to unfold differently....

This book was part of a book club read. I did not like it, it was very confusing to me, I don't get it. I was left with a thousand questions at the end, but didn't care enough to go back and listen again. I would have given up on this book long ago, save for the fact that it was for my book club.
I had higher hopes for this book after reading other reviews about how masterfully this book was written, but I was not impressed at all.
