Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

CHECK MATE!
Revisado: 06-18-21
I know nothing about chess but I caught myself getting caught up in every move that she made at every tournament! This was a great story about coming from nothing and making a magical life for herself . I cannot wait to watch the show on Netflix about this book.

Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Historia
When Harland Cain holds a .45 automatic to his head and bears down slowly upon the trigger, he experiences a profound sense of control over his destiny for the first time in his life. He savors the moment and imagines the click of the hammer, the explosion, and the bullet spiraling through the barrel before everything turns black. It's then he hears the out-of-control screaming of tires on the pavement, followed by the sickening sound of metal crashing against concrete. He lays down the pistol and crosses his yard in that predawn darkness to find a young boy, bloody and dazed.

wonderful, moving story
Revisado: 11-19-20
I loved this book. So different than what I usually listen to but so glad I did. The little twist that brings all the characters to life is so intricate and draws you in. Narration was spot on. I always knew who was talking. Well worth the listen!

horrible narration
Revisado: 07-23-20
I could have probably liked this book and I did listen to it till the end. Ther narrator was horrible! She had a dead tone and when the book skipped between different characters it was very hard to follow. It truly sounded like a fourth grader learning to read.

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

twisty and surprising
Revisado: 12-13-19
I was a I'd little bit confused in the beginning trying to keep up with who the characters were. But once I caught on, the story was great and the ending was very surprising! If you like the longer stories I would definitely recommend this one

Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

I love to listen to the very long stories. The narrator in this book was awesome! The story was really good. it bounced back and forth between the two main characters seamlessly. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a long and interesting crime/ drama.

great follow up
Revisado: 06-20-19
This book a little slower than the first in the series but quickly caught up. It was a great story and tied in with the first book. Was fun catching up with the characters. I would highly recommend reading the first book before this one so you won't be lost on some of the details.
