Historia
Every politically sentient American knows that Congress has been dominated by special interests, and many people do not remember a time when Congress legislated in the public interest. In the 1960's and 70's, however, lobbyists were aggressive but were countered by progressive senators and representatives, as several books have documented. What has remained untold is the major behind-the-scenes contribution of entrepreneurial Congressional staff, who planted the seeds of public interest bills in their bosses' minds and maneuvered to counteract the influence of lobbyists.

Heard about this on the Ralph Nader podcast. A bit dry and in the weeds, but a nice look into the way staffers used to be a critical part of the law making process. Unfortunately, we have definitely regressed in this way and now corporations and lobbyists are doing what staffers once did.

Historia
Orwell's own experiences inspire this semi-autobiographical novel about a man living in Paris in the early 1930s without a penny. The narrator's poverty brings him into contact with strange incidents and characters, which he manages to chronicle with great sensitivity and graphic power. The latter half of the book takes the English narrator to his home city, London, where the world of poverty is different in externals only.

Censorship of Orwell!
Revisado: 12-02-20
Really surprising to hear this audiobook censored of bad language. Don't think it should say it's unabridged when there are clearly words that they censor with "blank" instead. Horrible.
