Historia
Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

A really important book
Revisado: 06-30-24
I keep thinking how helpful this book will be to parents who have children who exhibit characteristics on the spectrum. How wonderful too that someone has blazed a trail for these children so the road to a fulfilling, positive life has been lit. So enlightening too for me who is neither a parent nor a child. Like all situations of prejudice or preconceived ideas, when you have a chance to get to know someone you’ve made assumptions about, it usually results in connecting to our shared humanness and dispels the feeling of “other.” This is such an important book.

Historia
From the outside, Harold is an average seven-year-old third grader growing up in the 1960s. Bored by school. Crushing on a girl. Likes movies and baseball—especially the hometown Boston Red Sox. Enjoys spending time with his grandfather. But inside Harold’s mind, things are a lot more complex and unusual. His thoughts come to him as birds flying through a small rectangle in the middle of his brain. He visits an outdoor cafe on the moon and is invited aboard a spaceship by famed astronomer Carl Sagan.

So refreshingly original

And the first time in a very long time I’ve read a book that struck me as modern, capital “L” Literature. Loved it.

Historia
When I was 17, I disappeared. I walked out the door of my apartment with a backpack and never looked back. I left the life of Cora Mitchell behind, seeking freedom from my real-life nightmare. But my freedom came with a cost. I lived a fictitious life for the next six years, never letting anyone close enough to see underneath the façade that was Andra Walker. I was content with my simple little life. Until I met Julian.

Very romance novel-y
Revisado: 12-08-20
The writer is talented and I’m not writing her off for the future. I personally am turned off by fantastical romance stories that perpetuate unattainable and unreal love models. I feel the expectations they can create for real life can be harmful. A lot of real estate in this book is devoted to such a romance and I ultimately couldn’t get thorough it so although I stand by my romance novel comments my review is not 100% fair because I didn’t finish the book.

So helpful!
Revisado: 03-24-18
I love this book. It is such a good way to learn the application of words and phrases that you learn in the beginning of learning French and it gives you hope that with some practice you will be able to carry on basic conversations before too long. The only suggestion I have is that at the very end it would be great if the narrator read the stories in French only and at normal speaking speed so the listener can work on tuning the ear to normal speech speed. The narrator is wonderful and speaks slowly and clearly to help with discerning the words which is an excellent way to learn in the beginning. It’s just that eventually we’ll have to be able to understand at full speed so a full speed French only version at the end would be super helpful. Thank you very much to the makers of this book. It is so helpful and well done.
