Historia
As an elite assassin for the CIA, Helen Warwick was trained to keep a low profile. But now that she's retired, she's forced to take on a very different, and very public, role—as the proud mother of a rising young politician. At a DC press conference for her son's campaign, she sees the ominous green light of a gun laser fixed on her son's head, and her CIA training kicks in. She jumps into action, pushes her son down, and saves him from a sniper's bullet. In that moment, Helen realizes she will never escape the secrets of her past—or the deranged man she thought she killed.

I loved this book more than the first. It feels like the character has really hit her stride and I’m running along to keep up.

Cute, fun, mostly light hearted
Revisado: 04-24-24
I enjoyed how the story wove together and revealed a little of each character’s background and point a view at a time. Some of the foreshadowing about the ending became apparent, but the way it worked out for the characters was pleasant and reminded me of a sitcom. If you are looking for a pallet cleanser, this is it.

Historia
Retirement isn't easy for a former CIA assassin. For fifty-five-year-old Helen Warwick, it may be impossible. Even Helen's family doesn't know the true nature of the work she's done for decades—the secret black ops, the sanctioned executions. But her plan to spend time reconnecting with her grown children has just been blown up-along with her son's house—by hired killers. Why is she being targeted now—and by whom?

Fast paced
Revisado: 01-02-24
The story was fast paced and gripping. I had a hard time pausing because I just wanted more. I liked most of the characters, but a couple just seemed over reactive and I’m guessing there will be more backstory in the second installment of this series that will justify the over reacting.
I’m a little disappointed that as of writing this review I can’t pre-order the second book for this series. I’m excited to keep reading about Helen.

Warm and cozy like Bernie’s mittens
Revisado: 03-03-23
It’s a cute fun story. I like that it wasn’t drawn out into a slow burn, but was a quick silly story with lots of folksy charm.

Interesting
Revisado: 02-24-23
I’m glad a new narrator was chosen for this book. I really like the voices for the characters. The story overall is fine, but I’m getting tired of Scarpetta’s inner monologues about how angry she is. The last few books have been over filled with repetitive statements and dialogue.

Best of Sue Grafton so far

This is my favorite Grafton novel so far. I still have a few more to read, but this was a compelling story and I enjoyed the time hops to tell the narrative.

Boring
Revisado: 05-08-20
I only made it halfway through this book. The beginning was interesting and it seemed as though it would lead somewhere and be a good mystery that I didn’t want to put down, but there was a tonal change around chapter two or three that just derailed the whole story for me. I wanted this book to be good so I kept listening, but I just found most of the characters to be boring and the plot was slow moving without any kind of build up to the main point or ending. The narrator was good, but the author really missed the mark on making this book thrilling or mysterious in my opinion.

Revisado: 05-13-17
The narrator is wonderful! The story starts out great, but about half way through the main character just starts to lose my interest. I enjoy a much smarter main character and this one literally had me yelling in my car in frustration when she started making stupid choices. Ugh, it was hard to finish listening.
