Historia
Weak, corrupt, and politically unstable, the former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are dismissed as isolated and irrelevant to the outside world. But are they? This hard-hitting book argues that Central Asia is in reality a globalization leader with more extensive involvement in economics, politics, and security dynamics beyond its borders than any other world region. Yet Central Asia's international activities are mostly hidden from view, with disturbing implications for world security.

Oh gosh.

This book opened my eyes to the true nature of politics in Central Asia. It completely disillusioned my ideas that the region was closed off and gave me insights on matters I wouldn't have even considered on my own.

Historia
VC tells the riveting story of how the industry arose from the United States' long-running orientation toward entrepreneurship. Venture capital has been driven from the start by the pull of outsized returns through a skewed distribution of payoffs - a faith in low-probability but substantial financial rewards that rarely materialize. Whether the gamble is a whaling voyage setting sail from New Bedford or the newest startup in Silicon Valley, VC is not just a model of finance that has proven difficult to replicate in other countries.

A pretty standard business history book
Revisado: 04-26-20
Despite being a pretty dry genre, a good rendering of people and events in VC.

Historia
This comprehensive series of 84 lectures features three award-winning historians sharing their insights into this nation's past-from the European settlement and the Revolutionary War through the Civil War, 19th-century industrialization, two world wars, and the present day. These lectures give you the opportunity to grasp the different aspects of our past that combine to make us distinctly American, and to gain the knowledge so essential to recognizing not only what makes this country such a noteworthy part of world history, but the varying degrees to which it has lived up to its ideals.

History made learnable!!
Revisado: 07-10-19
As someone who has struggled very much in the past to learn more about American history and why things are the way that they are now, it was so refreshing to finally find something that stuck and held my interest. Far from being a book that fires a barrage of dates and names at you, the lecturers in this series have turned the history of America into an easy to digest 84 chapters. It may seem long but the lecturers' voices, storytelling and seamless transition between events make this a very wonderful and fulfilling listen. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has tried and failed in the past to grasp American history.
