Historia
Mary Stokes was walking through Dead Man's Copse one evening when she saw, in the beam of a torch, the corpse of a young woman dressed in a black coat, black gloves, no hat and an eternity ring set with diamonds in her ear. But when she and Detective Sergeant Frank Abbott went back to the wood the body had vanished.

Great light mystery fiction.
Revisado: 11-08-23
Nearly as good as the renowned Agatha Christie or others of the mystery golden age for enjoyable light mystery fiction.

Historia
Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

Should have used a professional narrator
Revisado: 09-24-21
Bryson is an exceptional writer. I will now have to buy the written version of this book. Unfortunately Mr. Bryson has a soft voice with a strong sibilant “s” which detracts from my ability to enjoy the narrative. The narrator of his “Short History of Nearly Everything” was wonderful. That’s why I bought this audiobook without a preview. I shan’t make that mistake again.

Historia
This brilliant new treatment of the world's oldest epic is a literary event on par with Seamus Heaney's wildly popular Beowulf translation. Esteemed translator and best-selling author Stephen Mitchell energizes a heroic tale so old it predates Homer's Iliad by more than a millennium.

An error caused repetition.

I love this story and the narrator but my download had a serious flaw with a lengthy repetition.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

Hail Britannia, Britannia rule the waves!
Revisado: 02-04-17
A terrific story of friendship, and sailing when England ruled the seas. Perfectly narrated by Patrick Tull. Historically true to the era, and seamanship. O'Brian's attention to detail of the tall ships of that time is well known and respected.
I'm a poor sleeper, and my nights are filled with these tales of "Lucky Jack" who is not always lucky in terms of finances, love, or the men he reports to at the Admiralty.

The Peace of Amiens has left Jack Aubrey with no ship, no enemy to pursue, and no possibility of prize money to supplement his meager income. His decision to seek refuge from his troubles, and creditors, in France proves doubly disastrous.
