Sometimes these cozy books get a bit cheesy and predictable but this one was delightfully fresh! Hope the author writes a sequel.

Historia
When Vianne Rocher receives a letter from beyond the grave, she has no choice but to follow the wind that blows her back to Lansquenet, the beautiful French village in which eight years ago she opened a chocolate shop and first learned the meaning of home. But returning to one's past can be a dangerous pursuit. Vianne, with her daughters, Anouk and Rosette, finds Lansquenet changed in unexpected ways: women veiled in black, the scent of spices and peppermint tea - and there, on the bank of the river Tannes, facing the church, a minaret. Most surprising of all, her old nemesis, Father Francis Reynaud, desperately needs her help.

The Chocolat series just gets better and better with every novel and this one was fantastic. Listening to it was the best decision in order to really get everyone’s tone and personalities. The narrators did such a great job! Fabulous all around!

Historia
Born into slavery on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat, Doll bought her freedom from her Irish planter father and built a legacy of wealth and power as an entrepreneur, merchant, hotelier, and planter that extended from the marketplaces and sugar plantations of Dominica and Barbados to a glittering luxury hotel in Demerara on the South American continent. Vanessa Riley’s novel brings Doll to vivid life as she rises above the harsh realities of slavery and colonialism by working the system and leveraging the competing attentions of the men in her life

Give Adjoa Andoh an Oscar!
Revisado: 08-27-21
Holy moly, Andoh delivers an absolutely amazing performance reading this story. She is so talented to not only capture the English, Irish and Island accents but also the Creole and mixed ones too. That takes talent. She truly made this book for me, I extremely suggest listening vs just reading it!
As for the actual story, I enjoyed it. Was it one of my favs this year? No, much like The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock, novels this large wax and wane, have valleys and peaks. But the journey was still a good time. I think this would make a great tv series like Downton Abbey. So many characters and plot lines, it was definitely a challenge to finish, but I am
glad I did.

There will be a sequel, I know it.
Revisado: 09-01-20
I’m exhausted from consuming this giant epic of a novel, so I can’t write a long detailed review. Just know the writing is very good, the pacing is actually surprisingly good (hard to find in a long story), the story is creative and fun and the narration is not THAT bad. I’ve heard way worse and if you’re like me, and rely mostly on audiobooks for “reading” then trust me, it’s a fine narration. My only criticism is the end of the book felt rushed a bit. She definitely left some room for this universe to expand and grow so I won’t be surprised if she writes a sequel. I give it a B-!

The Yellow Wallpaper meets The Tell-Tale Heart
Revisado: 08-15-20
Oooooo this was a beautiful Gothic-esque tale. I really, really enjoyed it and devoured it in two days. I applaud the author's creativity and imagination as this story I could not predict the ending or what was happening lol it was a wild ride. This would make a great movie! With Tom Hiddleston as Virgil perhaps. Hey Hollywood, call me when you need it to be cast lol I've got the list ready to go.
(Side note: The narrator was very one note and read the entire book in the same melodic pattern no matter who was speaking or what was happening. I had to speed it up a lot to get past her excruciating vocal canter.)

Revisado: 07-21-20
I think some of these reviews are a little harsh. Is it Gone Girl? No. But is it confusing and terrible? Not at all. I listened to it in two days and had a great time with the story. The ending I found to be a cliff hanger but still just fine. I've read worse honestly lol If you're looking for a Gothic bombshell you may be let down by this novel HOWEVER if you're looking for a really fun true crime-y kind of story that's easy to listen to and has many twists and turns then this is perfect.

Historia
There is no cure for being who you truly are.… In a cottage high atop Llanfair Mountain, sixteen-year-old Clara lives with her sister, Maren, and guardian Auntie. By day, they gather herbs for Auntie's healing potions. By night, Auntie spins tales of faraway lands and wicked fairies. Clara's favorite story tells of three orphan infants—Clara, who was brought to Auntie by a stork; Maren, who arrived in a seashell; and their best friend, O'Neill, who was found beneath an apple tree. One day, Clara discovers shimmering scales just beneath her sister's skin.

It's a very sweet fairy tale all can enjoy.
Revisado: 04-28-20
I think people who don't enjoy this book are looking for a very serious, intense story. This one is more cottage-core, sweet, moving but cliff hanging till the very end. I poured through it to see what would happen next. It's a fairy tale for some of us who have grown up but still have a whisper of that magic still in us. Don't take it so seriously and just enjoy it as your mom or dad or someone was reading it to you before bedtime.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

I LOVED it!
Revisado: 03-10-20
I don’t see how people aren’t seeing the magic in this book? If anything, I found even more. There was a lot more going on in this book since it was focused on not only the sisters, but also Bay and her journey. I found this book to be so sweet and sentimental and also nostalgic for those teen years. I hope there are more Waverly stories to come.

Historia
The Waverleys have always been a curious family, endowed with peculiar gifts that make them outsiders even in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina. Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers.
Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures.
Together again in the house they grew up in, the Waverley sisters realize they must deal with their common legacy - if they are ever to feel at home in Bascom - or with each other.

I stayed in my car an extra 15 mins to finish :P
Revisado: 03-04-20
I bought a copy of this book at a Goodwill for $1. I love flowers, gardening, witchy things, cooking, everything this book promised on the summary. I figured it was going to be a lovesick romance novel with dashes of witchcraft and special flowers or something Hallmark-y. I was pleasantly surprised at the feminism, the passion, the coming of age, the danger, everything. I actually stayed in my car, at work, listening to the very last 15 mins because I didn't want to leave it lol my only complaint is they cut Claire's gorgeous long hair into a "May I speak to the manager?" cut from what it sounds like.
