The real Black Elk

Joe Jackson does a very thorough job of chronicling the life of one of Americas greatest icons. Having read “Black Elk Speaks” many moons ago, which is a more poetic and autobiographical story, I find that Jackson’s biography covers a more layered, multicultural, and multifaceted version of the famous Medicine Man. If you want the blatant truth of what really happened to our ancestral peoples when an invasive people came to this country, read this book. You won’t find truth in a typical American classroom.

It’s always refreshing when someone is able to be blatantly authentic, warts and all hanging out. Will Smith tells it exactly like it is, revealing the bumpy road to maturity, with all the hard knocks. Well done! Namaste

Every American must read!

Our own, American, constitution is long overdue for a revision and upgrade to fit the 21st century. Once that’s done, our leaders should be made to adhere to it and ejected when they refuse. The past 4 years of buffoonery in American government was blatant evidence of such need for improvement and accountability. We should all be so courageous and steadfast as Mr. Mandela in our calls for unity and equality!

Truth wins!

Just when you thought all hope for truth and honesty in our society was lost, you read something as open and unapologetic as this! Thank you,Lindy West, for saying oh so many things that most would not, regardless of the factuality of it all. It makes me cringe to call you “courageous “ because you speak truth, but that’s the general tone of the day. As a fellow outspoken, rebellious, bully-fighting, truth-speaker, I applaud you!!! I paid for a book, not to be interrupted by advertisements. I was disappointed by the distraction from my flow of thought, which I specifically listen to these types of audiobooks for. While I am always impressed by Braden’s works, I will not purchase any more “compilations”.

Required reading

As the first book I’ve ever read which fully analyzed and defines the continually evolving terminology of “racism”, I strongly believe it should be required reading across multiple curriculums, from middle school through college. Kendi uses exhaustive research, as well as personal experience to decipher the quandary of racism in a very open, unbiased, and self-checking manner. This is a topic which must be widely discussed, from early childhood until death, by all humans, everywhere. I wish we had this book in our “civics”, history, sociology, and every humanities class. Namaste, Mr. Kendi.
