Worth the Wait
Revisado: 01-31-25
LOVE the story and the narration (for the most part). I don’t like hearing a smile from the narrator at inappropriate times to be smiling or joyful. It’s off putting.
BUT…this is probably one of my favorite McFadden books!!

Surprise Ending
Revisado: 01-11-25
I listen to a LOT of books that claim to have twists and turns and a surprise ending. This doesn’t typically turn out to be the case. The ending of this tale makes total sense, but I truly did not see it coming.

Loved It
Revisado: 01-06-25
This is the best story I’ve listened to in a long time and I go through audiobooks quite quickly!
The ONLY reason the performance is 4 stars is because there was no distinction made between Lara and Maggie’s voices. If you miss the narrator saying ‘Maggie’ or ‘Lara’ at the beginning of each chapter, it can take a bit to catch on to who’s talking.

Finally Finished
Revisado: 01-04-25
Overall I liked the story, but…
It could have been told in half the time. I kept thinking it was wrapping up and wondered how there could still be HOURS left. I almost quit listening several times because, as others have mentioned, the narrator was irritating. I don’t know how someone didn’t tell her that ‘says’ is pronounced sEz and not sAYz. It was hard to ignore because that word was used a LOT!

The story was okay, but the narrator should know how to pronounce words like Connecticut (referenced throughout) and Patron (tequila) prior to recording. Also, this series is based in the U.S., primarily Connecticut, where we don't refer to every female as Mum.

I really tried to get into it, but finally gave up. So much for being a "gripping psychological thriller"!
The narration was flat and the story was too laden with the intricacies of the main character's role.

Annoying Narration
Revisado: 04-19-24
If you are going to tell a story about an actual place, you should use the correct pronunciations. It's EdIna, not EdEEna. Also, why make the children sound so sassy when they talk to their mom? Not all children behave badly.
