Historia
Marek Fabritis is used to delivering blows, not receiving them. But when he gets tipped off by an anonymous email about his ex-girlfriend, the news leaves him ice cold - and it's not because Gracen Moore is getting married to a total jerk. It's the fact that Marek has a three-year-old daughter he never knew about. Now he's going back home, not to play knight in shining armor but to make damn sure that no man takes what's his. For the first time, there might be something more important than hockey.

Unique
Revisado: 04-22-25
This story is truly unique in this series.
So many of these follow a very similar arc/plotline,not this.
Very emotionally realistic.

That's not the only thing that's different. Zoë is unable to control an unexplainable energy coursing through her body. Justus De Gradi is a man who can teach her that control. He's handsome, arrogant, and not entirely human. He reveals that she is a Mage - an immortal made of light, not magic. She must now make a choice: Rebuild her life in the human world with the man who saved her, or live with Justus and learn how to use her extraordinary gifts. Justus has sworn an oath to protect her life, but can he guard her from the one man who has a right to claim it?

Really frustrating- Contextual review
Revisado: 04-18-25
I found this author due to a later book in this built world ("The Vow"), and liked it so much i stepped back to read from the 'creation' of this world.
Time and a LOT of writing passed for this author between these book... to me, the writing is not only building this world, it is illustrating the growth arc of this author.
Please read the remainder of this review with the above context.
The overarching plot was excellent.
The execution was painfully lacking... personally, I think, in order to not lose potential readers later on, the author or an editor should come back and clean this up (yes, i realize that this costs resources... and the author may not be able to afford this with current publishing SOPs), if that isn't feasible may friends and /or fans could give an assist.
1. There were many instances of the author using synonyms of the same word 2 or 3 times in a row (small little __insert noun). Unnecessary and annoying.
2. Using words or phrases in accurately for meaning.
3. Plot inconsistency/continuity. . . phwew... there was a lot of this. For me it seemed there was less in the beginning, but it really built by the end.
4. Main characters that seemed to be 'forced' by the author to do or say things that did not match with the author-described persona (doing something out of character so the author could draw in a plot point)
The audio version... hmmm...
5. The narrator had to cover a LOT of voices, and was pretty consistent maintaing those voices for each character.
6. Inflections, emotions, general dialogue was poor.
An additional narrator or 2 would really help (again, i realize this is likely a budgeting issue).
I read a lot... this was a chore to listen to.
When you combine the above with the main character who is presented as 'strong' instead whining most of the time it was unpleasant, and hard to continue with.
I switched over to audio so I wouldn't lose *reading time.
I will try the next book. If it doesn't improve I will read the synopses of this early set in the series, and try a later book.
The plot /worldbuildinf is intriguing... EDITOR!
