Look around you and think for a minute: Is America too crowded? For years, we have been warned about the looming danger of overpopulation: people jostling for space on a planet that's busting at the seams and running out of oil and food and land and everything else. It's all bunk. The population bomb never exploded. Instead, statistics from around the world make clear that since the 1970s, we've been facing exactly the opposite problem: people are having too few babies.

What we expected when no one is expecting
Revisado: 12-24-23
The book is a solid listen at only 6.5 hrs. However, I only found the last chapter meaty enough to up the rating to a 3.
This is because while some might be shocked to know the factors underpinning the plummeting birthrates, most of us over 30 know why already due to broken social contracts and financial crises that removed the ability for people to settle down and achieve the time-limited milestone that results in family building.
The book is a good intro to this subject, but if you want a coherent directed conversation rather than assorted chapters of examples and asides from a pronatalist point of view, I recommend Peter Zeihan for real conversation from an American point of view from a situational point of view.
However, if you want to understand and consider options for how we can do better, your princess is in another castle my friends.

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

The Information We Actually Need.

Compelling and facts that are transparent. The only book that gave me the terrible news without the sensationalist spin. You have a lot to consider and if you don't have more questions after you finish, read it again.

I made my son listen to this it was so good!
Revisado: 01-25-19
My 11 yo son benefited just as much as I did from this straight-forward clear spoken book. He is on the spectrum and while high functioning, he can sometimes miss the cues for understanding that sometimes you have an irrational asshole on your hands and retaliation is not an option.
I loved the section on how and why certain tactics and methods can work or when they don't work. However, my favorite was the very real acknowledgment that sometimes you just have to cope and set appropriate boundaries (another conversation with my son that this helped a lot with!).
I ended up buying him a physical copy to keep. Thank you so much Robert Sutton.

It was so cool and frightening😱 at the same time and full of surprises and I loved it because it had monsters from Minecraft and that is cool.😂
