Disappointment

I feel like this was a book she may have written at the beginning of her writing career and pulled it out during a period of writers block. Not up to her usual standards. I was very disappointed.

Lackluster

Writer tried to be poetic and fell short. Trying to be evocative in their descriptions but missing the mark and just using up words…the night was dark, black as pitch, as dark as obsidian, cold and lightless as the deepest coldest depths of the ocean… eye roll…my soul writhed and twisted in agony, tormented and fighting against the words. It shuddered to the core of my being with how slowly every point was made every emotion described, over and over and over again!

Comeuppance delivered by doddering old lady

Loved it. Even if it’s slightly disturbing. A reminder not to be ageist!! Everyone she dealt her justice to seemed to deserve some kind of punishment. Maybe she was a little severe but justice nonetheless.

Don’t waste your time. All the soul rendering and heart crashing and more soul tearing and seeing one’s self reflected in other eyes. Never ends no twaddle!! Could not finish it. I really tried but ….just NO.

So annoying

Never rolled my eyes more. Couldn’t finish it. The narrator makes it all worse. I think if I read it myself it would be slightly more bearable. The lead is so silly and immature nothing realistic about her. None of her reactions made sense. I couldn’t bare it any longer made it most of the way through part one hoping to warm up to it but my eyes are tired of rolling.

Very emotional…

I was angry or crying through most of this book. With little bought of laughter mainly due to little Diem.
The book is a little drawn out in the middle where the angst just get repeated and you start to worry that everything is going to be made worse because no one will do the right thing. But luckily that was a momentary feeling and things started moving again.
Just as long as you don’t mind breaking down in to a full on sob at moments then I think this is a great read.

A let down

Not a dark romance at all. Starts out that way but for a worldly man almost 30 he has a limp personality and a sheltered virgin who has been kidnapped she’s is stripping down and taking a shower in a derelict dungeon in the basement? No, this whole plot did not ring true at all. It was hard to suspend reality and get into their story.
About half way through I just wanted to stop. Chapter 33 had me rolling my eyes hard. How gullible can a person be?! I’m afraid it just fell apart, like the writers were tired of working together and just wanted it to end.
Also if your looking for that steamy dark romantic enemies to lovers that combust when they come together then this isn’t that either.

Theirs was annoying. It felt like there was shock value just for the sake of it. 3 loves I’m one book my? No!
Some chapters end and started so abruptly I kept thinking the recording was skipping. But no . Especially the chapter right before the shit hits the fan for the 3rd time. “He was smiling for the first time….” Blah blah boom!!!!
Then there was the male narrator. If this is his natural way of talking then sincere apologies. But I think it was his acting for the role and he sounded drunk most of the time or constantly on the brink of tears. I had to stop listening and read his parts.
This missed the mark for me completely but I’m sure many like the soap opera quality of the story, just not for me. I would not call this a romance. Just a story of a woman with immense bad luck who falls in love easily.

Complete twaddle…

Read the free version if you must but don’t pay for the audible. The narrators made the over dramatic dialogue even worse.
Other things that made it hard to get through this were:

The constant use of “my little sister” and “my brothers”. …..we got it! You’re giving it up to your step siblings, mostly before your parents were even married, use names already.
“I gripped my laptop”….put it in a fucking bag. I can’t tell you how many times this came up. Grip a door handle, an item of clothing, your own hand but stop torturing the computer.

But seriously the story was disjointed, too many things were going on, there men we are given next to no info on (we don’t even get descriptions of them) mafia, drugs, estranged friends, sweet stuttering but clingy boy whose role is very unclear, mad ex (who turns up out of no where and becomes murderously possessive), possibly psychotic dad (who keeps turning up covered on blood), and a mother who is quick to jump in to bed and marriage days after her husband ends up in jail and she gets the quickest divorce ever….days!!!
Every trope ever found in a bully, reverse harem, Romano or erotic novel was put in to the book but non were fleshed out or contributed to the story.

Juvenile!

The whole thing was juvenile. The heroine reacted to everything like she was 14 years old and considering that she was having a relationship with her professor it made thing rather disturbing. It doesn’t help that the narrators voice also sounded like that of a young teenager. Better suited to reading a preteen angst book.
I found the heroine too annoying and couldn’t get in to the story at all because I couldn’t believe anyone would fall for her. Nothing about her was attractive. She was a liar, hypocrite and a user!!

Then there was her best friend, what a pill! I would not tolerate someone like that in my life let alone call her my best friend. Pushy, overbearing and demanding. I couldn’t see past these two characters to even begin to try to enjoy what could have been an enticing story.

That said, a teenager would gobble this up and love it I’m sure.
