Historia
Janey hadn’t heard from her sister Kelly since she ran away from home eight years ago. Until the day the letter arrived; a disturbing letter. Before Janey could make contact, Kelly disappeared again. The only clue she had to work with was in Redemption, Wisconsin, where Kelly had worked as a nanny. So, Janey decides to retrace her sister’s steps...by taking over her job. The family she nannies for has secrets, and the more Janey digs, the more twisted the story becomes—and the more Janey realizes she might be the next to disappear.

DNF
Revisado: 03-19-25
I loved the Secrets of Redemption series, but this is NOT part of that series. There was barely a mention of the past history of the town, and no mention at all of the characters I knew from the other books. The main character in this one, Janey, is not very likable. I don't feel sorry for her, I'm not rooting for her to succeed, I'm kind of disgusted by what she's doing... The rest of the characters aren't any better, except maybe the children, whom everybody ignores most of the time. There are other books waiting to be read that I will enjoy much more! DNF
*But January LaVoy is THE BEST narrator you'll ever find. I think she's the reason I listened for as long as I did!

Historia
The Pavlin family built an empire on love. As the first jewelers to sell diamond rings exclusively for proposals, they started a tradition that has defined engagements ever since. But when an ill-fated publicity stunt pits the three Pavlin sisters against one another for a famous family jewel, their bond is broken. No ordinary diamond ring, the Electric Rose splinters the sisters, leaving one unlucky in love, one escaping to the shores of Cape Cod, and the other, ultimately, dead. Now, over a decade later, Gemma Maybrook is still reconciling the reality of her mother's death.

Gotta Love January LaVoy!
Revisado: 12-29-24
January LaVoy is a wonderful storyteller, and the story itself was intriguing. I always like a story about women who run their own business. The characters were likable and relatable, but for me, the whole book was too character-driven. There was not enough plot or suspense, or whatever it is that keeps the reader turning pages to see what happens next.

Historia
When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Repetitive
Revisado: 12-04-24
Usually Robert’s sequels introduce new problems, or they are told from a different character’s point of view… but this sequel was exactly the same as the first book. Same problem, same people, nothing resolved. Oh, wait, they did get a new cat.

Series Starts to Get Tedious
Revisado: 10-20-24
I loved the first book, liked the second book, and then couldn't finish the third book. I wanted something more impactful to happen... but the plot just kind of meandered around. I found myself tiring of the same characters saying and doing the same things.

Historia
Unsure of the future but ready for risks, Libby O’Dell trades big-city life for whatever the back roads hold. In this case it’s the small community of Sawmill, Texas, where Libby’s taken a temporary job putting an antique store in order. Her new boss, Benny Taylor, a handsome charmer with a three-legged dog named Elvis, isn’t a bad change of scenery, either. Across the street Benny’s surrogate grandmothers—the widows Minilee and Opal—are ready with homemade corn bread, sweet tea, and an invitation for Libby to join their book club.

Easy Light Romance
Revisado: 09-29-24
A very light read... with not much action or conflict whatsoever. The main characters spend most of the time reflecting about what they want next in life. Everything kind of falls into place a little too conveniently, in my opinion. But if a conflict-free, easy going romance novel is what you're looking for... you'll find it here!

Exciting Series! Great Narrator!
Revisado: 07-23-24
This series is one of my all-time favorites. The characters are likable and admirable, and you will be swept up in their quest to right the injustices of the world. Even though it's a fantasy, there are so many parallels to the world we live in today! My only suggestion to the author is to maybe come up with some other synonyms for the word 'palpable'? Every paragraph, something is palpable. :) Just my own opinion.
Again...Excellent series!

Mike Cavanaugh was a firefighter; it was his job to rescue people. Though inviting them home wasn't usually part of the job description. But when he pulled Christine Palmer out of her burning house, something about the gutsy single mom made him want to protect her, to make her life a little better.

Narrator is great

This book was slow-going. The characters were either thinking to themselves or talking to each other… with very little action in between.

Love the Narrator
Revisado: 05-11-24
I would have returned this book, except the narration was really well done. The actual story was bleak throughout, the characters were unlikeable... the plot was slow-moving and changed direction mid-story. I chose it because I like the way Therese Plummer tells a story!

Not Much Action
Revisado: 04-07-24
I enjoyed the first book in this series. There were interesting characters, lots of excitement and adventure. Dragons, magic, suspense... a brave woman who learns to make her own way and to stand up for what is right and just in the world.
But the second book had very little action. The characters mostly stood around talking to each other and reasoning through the politics of social justice. The main character spent a lot of time in deep thought over how to proceed with her romantic relationship. I ended up skipping ahead several times, just to find out how things ended. I don't know if I'll read the third book at all.

Intriguing New Series!
Revisado: 02-18-24
This is the start of a really good story... but I wish I'd waited to read it until the second and maybe even the third book are available. It's going to be a long wait to see what happens next!
Also, I wish the publishers would include an ancestry diagram in the next book, as it's difficult to keep all these people organized into their correct generations.
