Historia
Behind the well-known U.S. security organizations - the FBI and CIA among them - lies a heavily guarded, anonymous government agency dedicated to intelligence surveillance and to a highly specialized brand of citizen protection. Shock waves of alarm ripple through the clandestine agency when Washington, D.C., police detective Ryan Kessler inexplicably becomes the target of Henry Loving, a seasoned, ruthless “lifter” hired to obtain information using whatever means necessary.

Engrossing and enjoyable book
Revisado: 09-21-11
Reading the new James Bond novel Carte Blanch by Jefferey Deaver inspired me to read more of his books, Edge being the first of what I now believe will be many! The characters are well-defined, the plot contains many surprises, twists and turns, and the novel has a sort of epilogue that contains an unexpected emotional punch. The narrator of this audiobook has received some criticism for not making his voice characterizations distinct enough. This criticism is somewhat deserved, but I felt that the narrator corrects this and actually improves quite a bit over the course of the reading. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase more books read by him.

Historia
She is a housewife: young, healthy, blissfully happy. He is an actor: charismatic and ambitious. The spacious, sun-filled apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side is their dream home, a dream that turns into an unspeakable nightmare. Enter the chilling world of Ira Levin, where terror is as near as your new neighbors and where evil wears the most innocent face of all.

Here Be Witches
Revisado: 08-05-11
Mia Farrow does a fine job of narrating this novel, as well as putting her own spin on the various characters' voices. Her performance of Minnie Castevet is a highlight--she manages to make her sound simultaneously comical and frightening. Despite having seen the film many times, it was great fun to listen to this audiobook and to picture oneself in poor Rosemary's shoes: Is she suffering from a pregnancy-induced paranoia, or are these neighbors of hers part of a witch's coven?

Historia
Fresh from Afghanistan, James Bond has been recruited to a new agency. Conceived in the post-9/11 world, it operates independent of Five, Six and the MoD, its very existence deniable. Its aim: to protect the Realm, by any means necessary. The Night Action alert calls Bond from dinner with a beautiful woman. GCHQ has decrypted an electronic whisper about an attack scheduled for later in the week: casualties estimated in the thousands, British interests adversely affected.

A pleasure from start to finish
Revisado: 08-05-11
Carte Blanche: The New James Bond Novel is clever and exciting, and the plot's twists and turns and will keep the listener hanging on every word. This is the James Bond we know from the novels, and not the cartoon hero of the films who performs superhuman feets. The narration by Toby Stephens is perfect. By the way, is there an accent he cannot master? The happy result of hearing this novel is a desire to purchase more of author Jeffery Deaver's other works, and to keep an eye (and ear) out for more of Toby Stephens' narrated books.
