Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

I read (listened) to this book with my husband for a book club. The start was a little slow but then it was really good. Lots of laughs, a few tears. The interview with the author at the end was also great.

A gripping and emotional novel that will leave you wondering about the neighbors next door...On a cold January night, Sharon Lemke heads outside to see a lunar eclipse when she notices something odd at the house behind her backyard. Through her neighbor's kitchen window, she sees what appears to be a little girl washing dishes late at night. But the Fleming family doesn't have a child that age, and even if they did, why would she be doing housework at this late hour?

Heartfelt Story of Mystery and Love
Revisado: 11-11-22
I really enjoyed this book and completed it in less that two day.
Once you start listening you won’t be able to stop until you learn the fate of the mysterious little girl.
McQuestion has created deep, relatable characters and a somewhat suspenseful story surrounding them.
This is not the fist book I have read by Karen McQuestion but I think it is my favorite. If you like this, be sure to check out her other books!

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

Spellbinding, kept my attention to the end.
Revisado: 06-15-22
I didn’t read the synopsis of what the book was about very closely, so I wasn’t expecting it to be the same as the true crime podcast on the same case.
I liked writing style, and the story from the eyes of a 13 year old.
It was fun to remember back when I was that age and how sure I was that I was all grown up and wanted to be a part of all adult conversations.
Cassie’s vocabulary was a little too big even for an avid reader but it was entertaining.
I will be looking into other books from this author.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Heart warming and heart breaking all at the same time!
Revisado: 11-17-18
What a beautiful story! Kia spends most of her life from age 7 living alone in a Marsh. She learns she can depend on nature but not people.
Determined not to let the townspeople keep her down, she, with the help of a boy who was nice to her, learns to read and write with no formal schooling.
I found the book to be a little confusing with going back and forth between timelines but eventually got the hang of it.
Great listen!

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Loved the story, loved the performance!
Revisado: 02-08-13
I don't write many reviews because I am not an author and I don't like giving spoilers. This book was beautifully written. I felt I had to write a review Beautiful Ruins because I enjoyed it so much!
There are several characters in the book, but each is well developed and Jess Walter did a great job of making sure all of the loose ends were tied up by the end of the story. From the shores of Italy to The west coast of the USA I felt I was in each setting.
Edoardo Ballerini was wonderful. Speaking beautiful Italian sometimes and other times the voice of Deborah, and all of the characters in between. I was able to visualize the settings in the book as if I were watching a movie, or an extra in the story itself.
As I said, I am not a great author, but Jess Walter did a great job with this book. Give it a try and you will love it as much as I did.

Sad, funny, thought provoking, great story!
Revisado: 12-27-12
If you could sum up The Cider House Rules in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, thought provoking
Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?
Wilbur Larch and Homer Wells too hard to choose just one.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I don't have enough time to listen to a book this long all in one sitting but it could have kept my attention for that long.
Any additional comments?
I really lived this book. Very well written and the performance was great!

Confusing and Hard to Follow
Revisado: 12-07-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I couldn't follow the story line. I listened to ALL of it, thinking it would come together, but it never did for me. I still don't really know what it was about.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I thought the narrators did a really good job. I just wan't able to connect the dots between the different story lines.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was dissapointed that I couldn't understand what the point of the storry was and couldn't bring it together. It seemed very disjointed to me.

Revisado: 06-17-12
What did you love best about The Witness?
I loved how not only the characters were developed but also the feel of the town.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed listening to The witness. Nora Roberts did a great job developing each scene and each character. The plot was somewhat predictable. But that didn't bother me. It was a great romance story with a little mystery. This was my first book by this author, but I will be listening to more
