Historia
In the heart of Blake County, an unprecedented legal storm is brewing. A long-time US senator, Bill Collins, is at the epicenter of this maelstrom. A man of power and influence, he now stands indicted, accused of an unthinkable crime—conspiring in the region's most recent unsolved murders. Enter Maggie Reynolds: a top-notch trial lawyer, famous for handling high-profile criminal defense cases. In a surprise twist, she crosses the aisle to stand on an unfamiliar side of the courtroom. Tapped as a special prosecutor, Maggie finds herself leading the State's case against the senator.

Life is mimicking this novel.
Revisado: 07-05-24
Cargile’s novel, about a magnificent defense attorney struggling to make sense of her new role as a special prosecutor, delivers the outrageous antics of a malignant narcissist defendant. Imagine a current U.S. Senator, as cunning and powerful as any former President who has stood trial. The senator is charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Throw in snappy dialogue, complicated relationship dynamics, surprising mistrust, live streaming on social media, and courtroom shenanigans— and find The BURDEN of POWER.
I loved it!

I downloaded my preorder of In Defense of Charlotte on the day of the legal thriller’s release. A true page turner, err, track turner. I listened into the night. After awakening, I listened to the well crafted ending. This book left me wanting more. Eagerly waiting on the next book in the series.

Historia
Lee Acker is horrified by the violent killing of his childhood best friend. And he is equally distraught to discover that he stands wrongly accused of the crime. As a whirlwind of media frenzy and a high-profile investigation descend on Lee's ordinarily quiet Georgia town, he boldly flees to Mexico in a hunt for answers. But Lee barely has time to catch whispers of shady international dealings before he finds himself detained and extradited back to the United States to stand trial. Now, Lee's last hope rests with the local legal community's rising star, Maggie Reynolds.

This debut legal thriller captured my attention. The book glides along with the psychology of the characters and how people truly interact with each other.
