Historia
January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb.... As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is.

Awesome!!!
Revisado: 09-19-20
I have listened to probably 125 books on audible and this would be in the top ten. One thing I like is when a book hooks me quickly and this book did just that, after a few minutes I found myself looking for opportunities to listen. The narrator does a very good job with the different characters and his voice was perfect. Even though the book is 19 hours long, it went by so quickly that it seemed like a much shorter book. The story had many layers and reminded me of a Grisham type book, but the character development was much superior, like a Scott Turrow. My only complaint is there was a bit of swearing, and I felt I needed to keep my headphones on so others would not hear, not as much as a Scott Turrow but more than a Grisham. What a find!!

Just what I needed!
Revisado: 07-07-20
Between Covid, the economy and the crime where I live, I have been so stressed lately and I find listening to books on audible helps me relax. But right now I don’t want to listen to anything that adds to my stress, so I have even opted out of my book club due to their choices that involve sad, heartbreaking stories. I have listened to a wonderful history book, a Grisham novel, some humorous books like Wodehouse, but what I really wanted was a mystery, not too gruesome but with good character development. I am a big fan of Agatha Christie, her stories are great, character development, not so much, so she wasn’t what I wanted at the moment, then I ran across this Cherryham series and it was just what I needed. Nice mysteries, not gruesome, great believable characters and many books in the series.

Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

Captivating
Revisado: 05-18-19
McCullough is one of my favorite authors, I have read (listened) to John Adams, Wright Brothers, Johnstown Flood, Truman, and now this one 1776. Even though I have enjoyed them all, John Adams and 1776 are my two favorites. Obviously I knew how this ended but I still felt on the edge of my seat at times. David McCullough does a great job as the narrator too and usually I think author/narrator a bad idea.

Historia
Originally published in six volumes, which sold more than one million copies, Carl Sandburg’s Abraham Lincoln was praised as the most noteworthy historical biography of Sandburg’s generation. He later distilled this monumental work into one volume that critics and readers alike consider his greatest work of nonfiction, as well as the most distinguished, authoritative biography of Lincoln ever published.
Growing up in an Illinois prairie town, Sandburg listened to stories of old-timers who had known Lincoln. By the time this single-volume edition was competed, he had spent a lifetime studying, researching, and writing about our 16th president.

This was such a fun mystery and I enjoyed every minute of it. This was my second Elizabeth Cadell book and I really want more. She is a very interesting writer and the stories are a breath of fresh air. Sometimes I read heavier books and sometimes I just want entertainment that leaves me smiling, this fit the bill.
