Historia
Cora is a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. Life is hell for all the slaves, but especially bad for Cora; an outcast even among her fellow Africans, she is coming into womanhood—where even greater pain awaits. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. Matters do not go as planned—Cora kills a young white boy who tries to capture her. Though they manage to find a station and head north, they are being hunted.

WOW!

This is the fastest I’ve ever finished a book on Audible. It was gripping, painful, visceral and so beautifully thought out and put together.
It’s truly masterful to lay down lines between the atrocities of the past and how they inform the deformities of the present.
This land’s glory truly travels through the darkness of others.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Really appreciated

This was a great approach to mental health topics. I appreciated the language, the candor and straight up approach. I’m a hella pro-black black dude and I felt comfortable and at ease listening to this white woman tell me about my problems. Also, didn’t realize that this was published by the good folks Elly Blue and Joe Biel at Microcosm Publishing until the end and then I was like, “that’s why I fucked with!”
