Great dueling magicians book!
Revisado: 04-27-25
Love a dueling magicians storyline. Also loved the Imperial Russia setting and the combination of natural forces and “refined” magic!

Loved to see the world through the adults’ eyes, perhaps our queens were merely one piece among many on the board.

Really liked the mix of characters in this book. I was worried it would go on too long, but so excited where it wrapped up.

Good but...
Revisado: 01-22-23
Overall I enjoyed this book. However I cant gove it 5 stars as the author uses attempted r*pe to shortcut feelings about characters. Felt cheap and disrespectful.

Good story- eerie in the light of COVID

The story was good. I enjoyed the characters and the way the timeline switched between narrators and eras. Very spooky considering covid and what that felt like.

Always Great
Revisado: 04-19-21
I was a little worried about what the plot of this book would cover. With the Metal Islands subdued and the Sky People once again on Earth, would it be a victory lap that gently disappointed after so many great books? Not at all. There are new adventures, new enemies, and new sides to X. Are there always unexpected storms? Yes. Inopportune lightening and Sirens? Of course. It's all your favorites taken into a new, logically pivoted direction. 5/5 stars and eagerly looking forward to book VII.

Slow beginning but worth it for the end
Revisado: 04-26-20
The book certainly starts off slow and confusing. Where are we? What the hell are these places? I would encourage you to persevere to the end, it's well worth it. The book becomes really good at about the halfway point and takes off until the end.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

a good story

I really enjoyed going through the twists and turns of this book. I felt the end unraveled quickly when we got there, but I would still be interested in reading the author's other works.
