Historia
On a freezing December night, with a full moon hovering in the black sky over New York City, two people are brutally murdered, the death scenes marked by eerie, matching calling cards: moon-faced clocks investigators fear ticked away the victims' last moments on earth. Renowned criminologist Lincoln Rhyme immediately identifies the clock distributor and has the chilling realization that the killer, who has dubbed himself the Watchmaker, has more murders planned in the hours to come.

Very intricate. Pay attention!

This is my first Deaver book and I am now going to listen to more. Drawing characters is the author's real strength. They are interesting, complicated and leave you wanting more. The plot of this book is fascinating, but rests on some coincidences that are a little hard to swallow. Suspend that instinct for disbelief a bit, and you'll have a great time. Good narration -- holds your interest. If half-stars were possible, I'd give another half.....

Daniel Hecht has created a plausible, heart-stopping ghost thriller. Relying on the science of parapsychology to spine-tingling effect, he brings to life a remarkably compelling character in Cree Black, as well as the ghosts she confronts.

A lucky find!
Revisado: 03-20-04
I like audible books that are long, interesting, well-performed, and make me think about something new. This is "just" a thriller, but it has an interesting environment (New Orleans), topic (ghosts and paranormal stuff), and characters (ghost buster, psychiatrist, various NO locals). It's very well produced and read, too. It's well written, with constant acknowledgement to the skepticism the reader is certainly developing. Generally, well done. A good read.

Historia
At the request (well, it wasn't really a request) of his employers, Augusten lands in rehab, where his dreams of group therapy with Robert Downey Jr. are immediately dashed by grim reality of fluorescent lighting and paper hospital slippers. When Augusten is forced to examine himself, he finds himself in the worst trouble of all. Because when his thirty days are up, he has to return to his same drunken Manhattan life - and live it sober. Dry is the story of love, loss, and Starbucks as a Higher Power

Sobriety with a sense of style....
Revisado: 09-28-03
Tales of substance abuse treatment are starting to become their own subgenre: Carolyn Knapp's "Drinking: A Love Story" and Pete Hamill's "A Drinking Life: A Memoir" come to mind, as does the film "28 Days." Augusten Burroughs' new book is a brilliant addition to this field, outclassing many other entries with its clever wit, ever present sense of irony, and hysterical humor. It's an excellent read even if you're not particularly interested in this topic, picking up the boy we've worried about since "Running with Scissors." He compares to David Sedaris, but wins hands down because he is authentic and faces the pain in his life with more than just sarcasm. I can't wait to see where else his writing career will take him.
This is especially appropriate for gays in recovery, by the way, although there's nothing in it that won't apply to all of us. This edition is brilliantly read by the author.
