For me this is the worst of Eva Chase’s stories. It felt long and drawn out. The plot moves forward at a glacial pace. Every character is dealing with guilt from their past but it takes forever to draw out the details and every few chapters there is a reprise of what we had already learned in each branch in the plot. I’m a fan of Ms Chase’s books but I can’t recommend this one.

Yes Noah has a lot going on and is dealing with a difficult past but her emerging from her shell was a slow painful, dare I say boring(?), process. I didn't give up but I did listen at 2x speed, something that didn't benefit the narration which, by the way, was quite good.

OK so the female lead wants to be a writer but is being hounded by powerful media baron who wants to destroy her. She is being auctioned off by her father who has spent the family fortune. She feels obligated to her father, bears no resentment to her parents for hiding an enormous secret from her. The pampered princess lives in fear her beloved father will take her trust fund away from her and that she might have to *gasp* work for a living. She spent years oblivious to her mother's declining health, presumably because she is so self-centred she has no time for others. She has caught the eye of a ruthless multi-billionaire because, of all the women in the world, Aurora, the oblivious, self-centred, privileged princess has that something special. Any review that suggests the plot or characters are believable....shouldn't be believed.

The performance is good but really none of this was their fault.
"retch"....I'm a third of the way in and am going to skip to the last few chapters.

Don't believe the reviews...except for this one.

Oh my, it was hard to put up with the insecurities

The story was entertaining but oh my, Charlie's insecurities are distracting. The banter was entertaining, the characters are parodies of real people but not so extreme to be off-putting. I made it to hour 8 before giving up and speeding up the playback. I get that Charlie is young ('ish") but she has the insecurities of a teenager. Every 20 minutes or so she has a crisis that results in a tantrum....it became very tiresome.

On an unrelated note, if Audible is going to enable fake reviews I would hope that with AI they could screen out the "I Very Happy That I Choose This Book/..." dross. I used to rely on reviews to make purchase decisions but with so much noise and drivel that really isn't a worthwhile exercise.

I enjoyed book 1. The first part of book 2 was 'fine' but by hour 7 I realized I wasn't listening closely and that it didn't matter! I listened to the last few hours at 1.2x speed just to get through the story. I don't think I'll bother with the remaining books. The plot has slowed to a crawl that would embarrass a snail.

The author warned that I might think think Magdalena is "a bit naive". That would be several steps up from where I placed her. The way she acts sometimes she is the poster girl for a horror movie where the foolish coed goes down into a dark cellar to be attacked by some crazed killer.

It’s difficult to believe any young woman can be as naive as Brea is. As the book “progressed” she became more annoying. I listened to the last couple chapters at 2x speed. The book ends on a cliffhanger but it’s not a high cliff and I won’t bother with the next story.

Formulaic, another female unable to think past sex

Well...I got through it at 1.2x speed. The performances were fine, Erin Mallon did the majority of the work.

The story is riddled with futile internal dialogue with Carrie, the senior executive who can't think beyond her vagina, proving time and time again that she is incompetent and unworthy of being a CEO. Reid, isn't any better but we don't have to listen to as much of his silly internal dialogue, and it's a penis not a vagina that is making him behave like a teenager.

If the internal dialogue is futile and silly the conversations between Reid and Carrie aren't much better. It's a romance so one shouldn't expect much but it would be nice if the dialogue wasn't completely ridiculous.

In any event the story isn't horrible but I strongly recommend waiting for a sale before purchasing.

The narrator was excellent. The story was entertaining but really, the back story of the “danger” the Isabella and Marcos face I superfluous. Really, how much tension is there if you know the hero is backed up by an all-powerful, all-knowing army that suffers no consequences for their actions? Entertaining definitely, but diminished by the silliness the story is wrapped in.

She "needed" him....to beat her? to take control?

Retch....
"She needed him" .....right....She "needed" Carson to force his way into her life, to invade her privacy, to ignore her when she tells him 'no', to cane, flog, spank, belt her before having unprepared anal sex with her....I guess, despite holding a senior position in a high pressure business, she really is a doormat. Enjoying kink and being is a masochist isn't a matter for judgement. Being a wuss and handing over complete control outside of sex IS a reason to disbelieve Elizabeth Safleur's claim that London is a strong, independent, alpha woman.

Carson is Superman, London is a hapless, ineffective, Victorian wallflower.

If you are searching for a story about an omnipotent, omniscient a-hole Dom who takes over the life of a pathetic woman then this story is for you. If you are looking for a credible storyline and character development you need to keep searching.

This story is just as entertaining as the earlier books. While it doesn't have the same 'wow' factor that comes from introducing a world where angels, demons, vampires and witches walk the world the character development and plot twists are still riveting.

The reviewers who trashed the story and got on social media to have their fellow knuckle-draggers complain about it are correct: if you are Nazi, a white supremacist, a flat-earther, believe your religion is superior to all others or are allergic to healthcare subsidies for the poor this book is not for you. That's ok, I'm sure there are plenty of pudgy finger picture books that you will find more appealing.
