Historia
As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smell of pine. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb. Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened.

boring
Revisado: 09-13-24
I never write reviews but I have to for this one. I am another listener who generally enjoys Nora Roberts so despite some negative reviews, I went for it. I got into it for about 3 hours but just couldn't go on. The premise of the story was interesting but there was so much totally unnecessary descriptions and little side stories that I lost interest. The characters (except for the bad guy), were all sickly sweet and perfect. I just stopped listening and I never do that. Won't be going back to Nora. Waste of a credit

If you need a good cry........
Revisado: 12-08-13
I read the Audible reviews after listening to this book and I was dismayed to see all of the negative reviews. Yes, the narrator did not portray characters very well,(except Cat), but the story was so heart wrenching that despite the annoying voice of the main male character Travis, I absolutely could not put it down. I teared up throughout the book, but for more than the last hour I cried and cried. Despite some of the flaws earlier reviewers described, the characters were well developed and had depth. I was so sorry to see it coming to an end that I just had to save the last chapter until I was by myself and unlikely to be disturbed.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Based on reviews, thought I'd like it more
Revisado: 01-30-13
I don't usually write reviews because I tend to agree with the other reviewers but not in this case. The majority of reviewers gave raving reviews-but not me. The overall story idea is a good one and certainly imaginative, but the majority of the book was presented as a series of emails from one character to another and I found this extremely annoying. There was too much jumping around and it took more than a few hours to figure out who everyone was in the story. When the book got to the point where the story was presented without so many short emails, I enjoyed it more. Unlike other reviewers, I wasn't thrilled with the storyteller --she tried to do different accents but I thought she failed and unlike others, I did not like her singing-I thought it detracted from the book and I have no idea why it was included.
