Good ideas that he already existed that are just rebranded
Revisado: 05-01-25
I think Mel does a really nice job in putting perspective on various things in life but I don’t agree with certain things she shares in a couple of chapter because they feed into the victim mentality, which I think is the opposite of what she is trying to do.

Filled with witty anecdotes from Ruby's own life, and backed up by smart science and practical mindfulness exercises, How to be Human is the only manual you need to help you upgrade your mind as much as you've upgraded your iPhone.

It what I expected. Kind of boring
Revisado: 02-19-25
There was some good information and interesting perspectives from the three different participants, but it wasn’t funny and sometimes actually annoying listening to the attempts at being funny. I wish there was more perspective from the neuroscientist and the monk.

Basic information
Revisado: 02-16-25
I was expecting more information out of this book. It’s a good book for people who have no understanding of the nervous system, but it’s pretty much a compilation of anything you can find online. It’s almost like a bunch of blogs put together in a book format.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Fantastic lessons
Revisado: 12-16-24
This book was loaded with practical eye opening helpful information. I plan to listen to it again but I might avoid the second half of the final chapter. I thought it was a bit of a contradiction to the rest of the book with too much pontificating about everyone’s greatness that made little to no sense in the context of the rest of the book. It was a disappointing end to a book that had my attention since the beginning.

Historia
Alan Gordon, a psychotherapist and the founder of the Pain Psychology Center in Los Angeles, was in grad school when he started experiencing chronic pain and it completely derailed his life. He saw multiple doctors and received many diagnoses, but none of the medical treatments helped. Frustrated with conventional pain management, he developed Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a mind-body protocol that eliminated his own chronic pain and has transformed the lives of thousands of his patients.

Great info. Audio hard to follow
Revisado: 08-25-24
I think this author has a lot of great information to share but I would recommend getting the written book versus the audio version because it is very hard to understand the narrator. So much information is packed into this book, but it’s hard to take it in because I have to work so hard to try and understand what he is saying throughout most of it because he speaks so quickly and blends words together. I’m trying so hard to get through this book, but I can only listen to it in small pieces because it is causing me more stress listening, which is ironic because I bought the book to try and calm down my nervous system. I hope the author decides to have somebody else narrate this book in a way that is much more relaxing to listen to so we can grasp the great information he has to offer.

Long winded
Revisado: 08-22-24
The book has lots of good information but he keeps repeating the same information over and over and it takes forever to get to the practice of TMS techniques. I suggest not getting the audio because it is not well narrated and very monotonous. I wish this book were better consolidated because much of this information can be found in other books that are far less redundant and long-winded.
