Everyone involved was having fun - and I had fun listening
Revisado: 01-21-25
I enjoyed the characters, the interesting ideas, the unapologetically outrageous storyline and the truly fantastic narration. Tom Taylorson has incredible range. Such fun.

Historia
Colonel Butler has paid his dues and just wants to enjoy his retirement on a remote planet. But the galaxy has had other plans. He has been roped into searching for a politician’s missing son and an industry magnate’s missing daughter. He has been kidnapped, violated numerous laws, and caused the destruction of colonial facilities. He’s famous—or infamous, depending on who you ask—praised and reviled in equal measure across the galaxy for his exploits.

I'll buy the next one, too, but...
Revisado: 10-12-24
I enjoyed it and will read the next one, if there is one. Having a character named Alanson here while "Weps!" in ExForce is named Mammay, with RC Bray as the common thread, is fun. Carl Butler often feels like what a crusty mid-fifties Joe Bishop might have been. The other characters and storyline keep things moving and are very engaging. The ending in this one was not as challenging and thought-provoking as some of the other endings in the series have been. Maybe Carl made the right call at the end. Maybe it was just as tough a call, requiring a LOT of maturity. But it just wasn't that interesting.

Historia
When the Ornu came, they took Earth in a single night. Humanity never stood a chance. Now, they force us to crew their ships and fight their wars for them. They hold Earth hostage, and if we refuse to do their bidding, they’ll lay waste to our precious blue marble. Slaughtering the billions who live there. But when Captain Bill Henderson is sent to claim a small moon for his masters, he finds something they never accounted for. An ancient warship – a behemoth abandoned for millennia by a species that reached its peak at the dawn of the universe.

Hopelessness, then Hope, then ends with heartbreak - not continuing
Revisado: 06-14-24
I thought the premise was interesting but just as things seemed like they found the forever ship and would turn around, it ends on a note so devastating that I have no interest in the next book. Narrator was amazing. But sorry I bought the book.

Historia
The McCormacks have been trying to keep a low profile so they can complete their plan to bring Earth to the club of spacefaring civilizations without creating a world war over the technology. But it’s hard to keep a low profile while building a space station, what with lifting all the material they need, designing new shuttles, and harnessing asteroids. Without any other choice, they go public.

I might be nearing the end of my rope after Book 4
Revisado: 11-29-23
I liked the concept in the first two books, but the target audience in the last two books appears to be young teens with Catie - who is not only not a typical teen, she is hardly credible - as the central character. Not my demographic. While the concept of using the advanced technologies to raise up developing economies is a good one, it could be done without the constant vilification of the USA and American companies. Hackneyed, formulaic and, frankly, uniformed. Finally, the narrator is weak, with little variation between voices and a distracting Canadian accent. Too bad. Coulda been good.

Historia
Calamity, the digital plague, is spreading, and where it strikes is both ruthless and random. Fearful of the Earth being ravaged, Van and the crew go on high alert to keep his homeworld free of galactic influence. That vision is shattered when Tony Burgess captures an alien ship... in Wisconsin. The ship isn't just a stray workboat. It's the opening ploy of a group that sees humanity as a business opportunity too big to pass up. Advancing in rank, Van is torn between two duties—to his crew and to his home.

I almost gave up....
Revisado: 11-13-23
While I really like this cast of characters, I almost gave up after books 4 or 5. Just too formulaic. Glad I didn't give up. The stories have become much more interesting and the characters deeper and even more likable. I'm now comforted to see that 4-5 more books are available in print already, and hope the incomparable Mr Kafer gets to WORK!

Simon is the best delivery boy that Mr Edwards’s restaurant has ever had. He’s on time every time, and he’s gotten nothing but good reviews. But he needs more money. His mother’s medical treatment won’t pay for itself, and his father is already working three jobs to try to make ends meet. But it might just be his lucky day: Mr. Edwards has another job for him. It’s more delivery work, but not the usual kind. You might even say that it’s out of this world. Oh well. Beggars can’t be choosers, and the pay is fantastic.

Creative and fun. The Australian narrator does American accents better than I do and I’m a Yank! Great fun. I’m just disappointed I gave a try to a series with only one book out. I hate waiting.

Historia
As far from explored space as any human has ever been, Geary and the Alliance fleet are on their own, protecting a diplomatic mission in territory belonging to an alien species with still-unknown motives. His already complex and dangerous mission is further imperiled by deadly challenges from other human factions seeking to harm or exploit the aliens. When another alien species whose technology is far more advanced than humanity’s arrives, the stakes are raised to the highest possible level.

Even after all these books,it keeps getting better
Revisado: 07-18-23
Admiral Geary and Company are my favorite characters in fiction. Combine that with fascinating aliens who are truly ALIEN, not just humans with cat or lizard faces. These aliens look, act, and THINK in a completely different, but well-thought-out and consistent way. The villains are more likely to be humans - and the human scumbags are awful, which accentuates perfectly the HONOR of our heroes. Interesting, exciting, and FUN. Love it.

Historia
Taking his trademark intellectual approach to understanding Christianity, Timothy Keller uncovers the essential message of Jesus, locked inside his most familiar parable. Within that parable Jesus reveals God's prodigal grace toward both the irreligious and the moralistic. This book will challenge both the devout and skeptics to see Christianity in a whole new way.

Historia
Several months after his neighborhood was cloaked in darkness and invaded by the demon-like denizens of a hellish world, life has returned to normal for Miah Gray, a.k.a. Laser Chicken. No longer burdened by PTSD, he is free to enjoy his family and to help pick up the pieces of a pillaged world. At night, he trains with his eight-year-old companion, Bree, a.k.a. Demon Dog, and their neighbors Henry and Sarah, the god-like descendants of Helen of Sparta and the mythological Zeus. All is calm...until new neighbors move in across the street and shatter the peace.

Proof that almost anything can be made funny
Revisado: 02-25-23
The only other book I read in this series was Mind Bullet, which was great! But the other books seemed too, well....., DARK. But Khaos was just so freaking funny, RC Bray was fantastic, and though I had no trouble picking up the story, I immediately gave it a second listen which was even better than the first listen, since I knew the characters better. I have eagerly pre-ordered Singularity and may be tempted to go back and see if the backstories of my favorite characters are funny enough to overcome the darkness.
