Historia
Bias persists in organizations and society. Despite efforts that have been made in the last few decades, gender and racioethnic equity still hasn't been achieved. What's worse, Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Latina women are being held back more than their White counterparts. Professor Tina Opie first started Shared Sisterhood as a movement to drive gender and racial equity in organizations. Since then, she and professor Beth A. Livingston have worked together to spread the word to leaders across organizations, with thousands of followers joining the cause.

Explains DEI as a journey rather than a destination
Revisado: 12-17-23
I listened to the book after reading it. I have now gifted a copy to one of my company’s HR representatives in the hope that it will provide a roadmap for our company’s DEI strategy. As Drs. Opie and Livingston explain, there has to be buy-in from the top. This book explains how to work at all levels of an organization to facilitate effective DEI practices, metrics, and accountability. Every CEO and CPO should read this book and adopt this strategy.

Historia
Shannon, Wally, and John built their lives around their place of work. Shannon, a white single mother, became the first woman to run the dangerous furnaces at the Rexnord manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was proud of producing one of the world’s top brands of steel bearings. Wally, a black man known for his initiative and kindness, was promoted to chairman of efficiency, one of the most coveted posts on the factory floor, and dreamed of starting his own barbecue business one day.

Great craftsmanship
Revisado: 07-26-22
Not only does she bring life to the characters, Farah also gives brilliant color to the time (social, political and economic).
The warmth and attachment to characters can be felt. EXCELLENT READ!

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

I listened to it twice this month
Revisado: 05-24-22
This is Grammy worthy. So glad I listened to it rather than reading it. No one could have possibly told her story other than her. Her voice is like sweet and soothing thunder. Her descriptions are so vivid, that I felt like I was watching a great movie - both times I listened to her. I watched “The Help” over and over again, and I’ll happily listen to this book again and again. Thank you Ms. Davis for this gift. Anticipating the movie from JuVee Productions.

Historia
Born on a plantation in Charles City, Virginia, Pheby Delores Brown has lived a relatively sheltered life. Shielded by her mother’s position as the estate’s medicine woman and cherished by the Master’s sister, she is set apart from the others on the plantation, belonging to neither world. She’d been promised freedom on her eighteenth birthday, but instead of the idyllic life she imagined with her true love, Essex Henry, Pheby is forced to leave the only home she has ever known. She unexpectedly finds herself thrust into the bowels of slavery at the infamous Devil’s Half Acre.

Realistic Depiction of the Antebellum South
Revisado: 06-03-21
I recommend this book to people who want a realistic depiction of life as an enslaved Black person during the antebellum era of American history. However, Black people might be triggered by the horrific violence committed against the enslaved Black characters in this book. There is no joy, only oppression and sacrifice. I sobbed after reading this book.
