I started it with great hope...
Revisado: 05-28-21
I started it with great hope and made it through by pure intellectual curiosity. I was really shocked how har all this experiment and adoption can go. But...
At the end of the book, the authors were careful to consider the down side of these roads and warn against the most common pitfalls. For which I think is more just as scientist.
The book clarified a few experiments of mine as I grew up, which I never really considered sharing - fear of social sidelining maybe but mostly because I knew very early how unreliable our brain can be in some situations.
I know have some science to back it all, which empowers me to ride the roads described in this book further, safer, my way.

This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.

Unexpectedly factual
Revisado: 05-22-21
I did hope for facts, but I was not ready for this much.
The commonalities between the middle class minorities, the southern redneck culture and it's origin, the prominent and we'll educated black “leaders”, how the end of slavery came to be, the causality between black culture changes and black social acceptance... How political agendas fashioned and regressed black communities and the in-the-time battle.
There's a lot of fact, not all off a sound and good judgement. There's a lot to ponder upon.

Have you ever...Invested time in something that, with hindsight, just wasn't worth it? Overpayed in an Ebay auction? Continued doing something you knew was bad for you? Sold stocks too late, or too early? Taken credit for success, but blamed failure on external circumstances? Backed the wrong horse? These are examples of cognitive biases, simple errors we all make in our day-to-day thinking.

Good Job
Revisado: 05-09-21
At the root of critical thinking, we need to spot rubbish and distinguish sound from irrational thinking... This book covers a hundred of the latter. More, the closing words also covers some advices regarding when critical thinking matters, must be considered, and why.
This' my first book from Rolf Dobelli and he's excellent at it. It's far from being boring as I thought when starting off.

Nothing less but Glawell. Enthralling !!!
Revisado: 05-06-21
I found this book especially nourishing. Lot's of facts, interviews, even first hands testimonies.
What's more? The book which I read just before this is “The End if Always Near” by Dan Carlin. An art work like few, very few others.
So listen the overlapping stories and drawing from that context had me grasp even more there was to it.
As always, muchas gracias.

In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Pitch Perfect
Revisado: 05-05-21
The incremental structure, the fact-driven account, comparing events both the the same context and parallel context nowadays, the tone of the reader, the author's ability to highlight what's at stake, yes but also what WAS at stake back then.
The end is always near. I guess this book is even more relevant if today's pandemic.

Historia
The critically acclaimed novelist and social critic Aldous Huxley, describes his personal experimentation with the drug mescaline and explores the nature of visionary experience. The title of this classic comes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern."

By synthesizing current research in the social sciences, Schwartz makes the counterintuitive case that eliminating choices can greatly reduce the stress, anxiety, and busyness of our lives. He offers eleven practical steps on how to limit choices to a manageable number, have the discipline to focus on the important ones and ignore the rest, and ultimately derive greater satisfaction from the choices you have to make.

The many eg. give good insights at what's at stake
Revisado: 05-03-21
I was a little skeptical when I started. I thought I'll be reading/listening to some biased work from someone who think the establishment should be making choice for the people, because people don't know what they want.
He carefully didn't say it and rather explorer the consequences of overwhelming choices and possibilities. Looking into great details what's the process in the mind and what inputs are usually required/used to which end.
I recommend it to those carrying regrets along, those wondering why they have a hard time making choices, even “simple” ones, and those curious about how to package what they offer to their customers.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.
