Historia
Barbara Stanwyck (1907-1990) rose from the ranks of chorus girl to become one of Hollywood's most talented leading women-and America's highest paid woman in the mid-1940s. Shuttled among foster homes as a child, she took a number of low-wage jobs while she determinedly made the connections that landed her in successful Broadway productions. Stanwyck then acted in a stream of high-quality films from the 1930s through the 1950s. Directors such as Cecil B. DeMille, Fritz Lang, and Frank Capra treasured her particular magic

A Beautiful Soul
Revisado: 03-29-25
Callahan’s book is an engaging biography of one of the greatest screen actresses. I think Missy would’ve been pleased with this book. Listening to Barbara Stanwyck, The Miracle Woman has added a deeper appreciation and enjoyment of Missy’s wonderful movies. Callahan has done a service to Ms. Stanwyck’s memory and to we the movie lovers who have been captured by her humanness so beautifully gifted to us in her work. We wish we could have known her. I expect Mr. Callahan has had the same experience which comes through in his book.
The narrator is excellent and does the work justice. She effectively shifts vocal gears when quoting Missy and so allows us to feel closer to that heroic lady.

A Winner.

Paul Dixon would make Heinlein proud. Excellent story; believable universe; and that rarity in SF, characters who are psychologically alive and engaging. I hope to have the opportunity to revisit Mr. Dixon’s cosmos. Tim Reynold’s performance is perfect.

Informative and fascinating. Encourages self-reflection and perspective on the role of non-rational values in living the human life.
