Since the 1970s, FantasticLand has been the theme park where "Fun is Guaranteed!" But when a hurricane ravages the Florida coast and isolates the park, the employees find it anything but fun. Five weeks later, the authorities who rescue the survivors encounter a scene of horror. Photos soon emerge online of heads on spikes outside of rides and viscera and human bones littering the gift shops, breaking records for hits, views, likes, clicks, and shares.

Disturbing and graphic
Revisado: 09-22-22
I did listen to the entire book. It was an interesting concept and could have been an interesting story. But the author spent entirely too much time describing graphic killing and maiming, repeating episodes as told from different points of view. I didn’t find the ending satisfying or any of the characters sympathetic or likeable.

Not a great choice
Revisado: 08-08-21
This book was way too long, and the story was improbable. Much is the dialogue was repetitive and actually boring. It used many cliches and predictable, one dimensional characters. The narrator does not have a natural sounding Irish accent, and most is the story is told from an Irish person. I do not recommend it.

Historia
Eighteen-year-old Stella Sandell stands accused of the brutal murder of a man almost 15 years her senior. She is an ordinary teenager from an upstanding local family. What reason could she have to know a shady businessman, let alone to kill him? Stella’s father, a pastor, and mother, a criminal defense attorney, find their moral compasses tested as they defend their daughter, while struggling to understand why she is a suspect.

Improbable and way too long
Revisado: 05-29-20
The characters, all of them, are unlikeable and irritating. The father/pastor is appalling as a person and worse as a pastor. I didn’t care who killed the equally awful Chris. I managed to listen to 59 chapters of this book, at 1.5 speeds after the first 3 hours, before skipping to the ending. I was not surprised at all or even interested, really. Way too long and ultimately just boring.

Unsatisfying
Revisado: 08-10-18
This story had interesting parts and at times was fast paced. There was much repetition and excessive chatter about minor details also. I stuck with it in the hopes of learning what the was real and what was fantasy. That did not happen.

Historia
On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that's going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he's sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché.

Entertaining and unique story

What did you love best about My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry?
The way the damaged and imperfect people in real life are seen and portrayed as noble and wondrous characters in the Land of Almost Awake
What was one of the most memorable moments of My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry?
I think each time Elsa realizes who a person in her apartment building is in the Land of Almost Awake was a memorable moment
What does Joan Walker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She gives personality to each of the characters and allows Elsa to be a child without being childish.

Unlikeable behaviors from unsympathetic characters
Revisado: 04-26-16
What disappointed you about Everything I Never Told You?
I could not like or even sympathize with any of the characters.
What could Celeste Ng have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Focus less on minute details that do not matter, possibly. The problem is the parents in this book are astonishingly selfish and through their own defects and self-importance create damaged, unlikeable children and an unhealthy living environment.
Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?
I did not like any of them.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The premise of the disappearance and back tracking to discover what happened was a good storyline. They are just damaged and unlikeable characters. Very hard to even care what happened to Lydia.

Torturous listening experience
Revisado: 05-31-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There was very little emotion in this book, which is really the author's fault, but it was endless and full of pointless and unnecessary details and references. The narrator could not adopt a believable Scottish accent when required, which was quite a bit of the dialogue.
Would you ever listen to anything by Julia Glass again?
NO
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from And the Dark Sacred Night?
It was overlong and so boring that I dreaded listening to it.
Any additional comments?
The only reason I finished listening to this book was because it became a personal challenge. I just could not believe that the story wasn't going to get any better or even become interesting.
