Historia
The Election of 1872 was the most contentious in American history. After both parties complained of corruption, neither candidate would concede, two governors claimed office and chaos erupted. Rival newspapers engaged in a bitter war of words, politicians plotted to overthrow the government, and their supporters fought in the streets and attempted assassinations. The entire country watched in grim fascination as the wounds of the Civil War were ripped open and the promise of President Grant’s Reconstruction faltered in the face of violent resistance and the birth of the Ku Klux Klan.

Terribly boring and extremely long
Revisado: 01-13-25
As a writer of facts and details she gets five stars. As a storyteller she gets one star. There is no way I could go through so many hours of unnecessary words. I tried skipping two or three chapters at a time but it was all the same over and over again. I had to quit. Also because I found myself sleeping through large sections of each chapter. How very incredibly boring is this author.
I didn’t even attempt to listen to the last chapter. It reminded me of that tedious movie Oppenheimer that was more than two hours and I just had to turn it off for how terrible it was.

We face a potent intersection of crises: ecological destruction, rising inequality, racial injustice, and the lasting impacts of a devastating pandemic. The situation is beyond urgent. To face these challenges, we need to find ways to strengthen our clarity, compassion, and courage to act. Beloved Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh is blazingly clear: There’s one thing we all have the power to change, which can make all the difference, and that is our mind.

Much Needed Reminder to Save Our Planet but
Revisado: 09-12-24
How can I easily fast forward that boring lady that would interrupt the great knowledge from Thich Nhat Hanh? I forgive her for her yapping on and on about nothing. He didn’t even know who she was when he came across her. She had to make herself important but says nothing interesting to me. This is why I gave this audiobook a low rating overall. Can I find a version without her talking, please? Peace

Historia
What drives our political and moral beliefs? What makes us like some things and dislike others? What shapes how we behave, and misbehave, in a group? What makes you, you? For centuries, philosophers and scholars have described human behaviour in terms of sex, power and money. In The Status Game, best-selling author Will Storr radically turns this thinking on its head by arguing that it is our irrepressible craving for status that ultimately defines who we are.

Eye opening nature of people in society
Revisado: 04-20-24
I wish I had known about this attribute of humanity a long time ago. Never too late though. I understand now why my enemies exist and why they perceive me as a threat to their imaginary status. LOL people are so silly and so detached from what really matters. I am a better me after becoming aware of this dumb human trait.

Historia
Texas: a land of sprawling diversity and unparalleled richness; a dazzling chapter in the history of our nation; a place like no other on Earth. Through the remarkable lives of four families, this epic saga spans four centuries and two continents and charts the dramatic formation of several great dynasties from the age of the conquistadors to the present day. A richly compelling novel of a proud people eager to meet the challenge of the land, Texas is James Michener's most magnificent achievement.

The Good The Bad And The Texan
Revisado: 04-14-24
I see why this book was not welcomed by the Texan authorities since it presents the ugly reality of the Native Americans, the Blacks, the Mexicans with their Catholic roots and its wetbacks, and its unscrupulous whites that makes up contemporary Texas. I enjoyed Michener’s fusion of fiction based on historical facts that weave this thriller. I liked the simple unadorned English language style that is easy to follow as if it were a podcast in modern times. I plan on listening to more of the author’s books. I already listened to MEXICO and The World Is My Home which are delightful.

Historia
Literary legend James A. Michener was "a Renaissance man, adventurous, inquisitive, unpretentious and unassuming, with an encyclopedic mind and a generous heart" ( The New York Times Book Review). In this exceptional memoir, the man himself tells the story of his remarkable life and describes the people, events, and ideas that shaped it.

Clear matter of fact English writing
Revisado: 03-02-24
I wish I had known about this author when I was learning English. I also delighted in his subject matter. This is my second of his books. I liked Mexico and will continue with Texas.
I really enjoyed the stories he recounted of his life and persona. A true star that continues to shine through his works.
Rather sad to come to the end of the book. I admire his life. I see now why his books are so addictive. What a great man!

Great content Horrible narration
Revisado: 12-26-23
Listening to Mr Tolle read is like trying to eat sand because he is so awfully dry in his reading style. The subject is quite interesting he just ruins it with his monotonous and unemotional voice.
Someone else, anybody can surely do better at reading this book.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author James A. Michener, whose novels hurtle from the far reaches of history to the dark corners of the world, paints an intoxicating portrait of a land whose past and present are as turbulent, fascinating, and colorful as any other on Earth. When an American journalist travels to report on the upcoming duel between two great matadors, he is ultimately swept up in the dramatic story of his own Mexican ancestry.

Magnificent work. Admirable style
Revisado: 12-24-23
It hit home for me being a born-raised Mexican that for decades have been an American citizen.
The details are authentic and I learned so much from bull fighting than I ever thought I knew.
A greater appreciation of the Civil War from the Confederate perspective.
I saw myself as so many characters in his story. I am sure I will read more of his vast works.
Oh, and not a bad job of the English narrator especially in the reading of Spanish words :)

Historia

Revisado: 12-19-23
Que horror. No pude continuar oyendo demasiados detalles.

Historia
Miles Morales is just your average teenager. He has unexpectedly become totally obsessed with poetry and can never seem to do much more than babble around his crush. Nothing too weird. Oh! Except, just yesterday, he used his Spidey superpowers to save the world (no biggie) from an evil mastermind called The Warden. And the grand prize Miles gets for that is….

Racism is the true villain which this Miles Morales doesn’t win over
Revisado: 09-20-23
I now see that anybody can write a story on Miles Morales.
This is not the Miles Morales from Marvel. His dad is a known police officer about to be captain. They know Miles is royalty. So, no this is from the author’s own universe. Spider-Man is too busy for petty teachers and corny students with a lame storyline.
I did not get the boricua characteristics of a Latin background from this Miles. The movie is way so much better than this mediocre story. I had to skip to the end.
Spider-Man would never fall from a chair. He would catch himself mid air and fix the chair in a blink of an eye.
Superheroes move in a quicker time lapse than regular people.
It was a very boring read.
I applaud the author for introducing the race issue so prevalent in our times towards non-whites.
I like that the face of Miles has a large nose. (All the other books on Miles have a white young man that has black skin and a thin nose.) This Miles is black and the narrator does a wonderful job.
Spider-Man is the most amazing in Across The Spider-verse, this character by Jason Reynolds is not part of this.
Jason Reynolds is a magnificent writer who exposes racism. Spider-Man has yet to fight the Racism villain but not in this book.

Not only is it an amazing book but Wil Wheaton was captivating chapter by chapter.
If I would have read this book it would have been difficult to go through all the copious amount of details. Nevertheless as an audiobook it made my evenings actually be inside the story, particularly the Oasis. Loved it.
