Historia
In Everything Is Negotiable, Meg Myers Morgan deconstructs preconceived notions about adulthood, parenthood, and career paths that have us limiting ourselves. Instead of following that linear plan, for example, she urges listeners to take action now for what we want - limitations be damned. With wit and verve, Morgan also tells us to forget trying to "have it all", as the cliche phrase goes - it'll never happen. And, Morgan argues, don't bother trying to give 100 percent - we simply can't give anything 100 percent attention, ever!

Relatable and Useful
Revisado: 01-29-25
This book had great examples throughout and gave me reason to actually stop and take notes. Additionally, the author did a great job narrating, which is not always the case with authors. I’ll be recommending this to my friends.

Historia
Some Americans insist that we're living in a post-racial society. But racist thought is not just alive and well in America—it is more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues, racist ideas have a long and lingering history, one in which nearly every great American thinker is complicit. In this deeply researched and fast-moving narrative, Kendi chronicles the entire story of anti-black racist ideas and their staggering power over the course of American history.

My review can’t do this justice
Revisado: 01-05-25
You just have to hear it. Specifically as a white person hearing this, I appreciated that certain things were said by the narrator in a way I may not have picked up had I been sight reading. I think as a white person it’s particularly important to hear this from a Black voice as the author intended. I will likely also buy the physical book as a reference and go through it again. And again… and again.

Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

Better Than Many Similarly Titled Books
Revisado: 07-01-24
First, as a VO artist, I want to acknowledge Sarah’s narration abilities. So many times an author reads their own book, and it’s terrible! Sarah was appropriately articulate while keeping the narration sounding like a conversation. Thank you! This book broke down parts of ideas that are usually given a broad stroke and washed over. I appreciate the dissection of issues and real world scenarios of how to handle various situations. This was practical, entertaining, informative, and relatable. I’ll actually use the attached PDFs.

Historia
America’s backstory is a whitewashed mythology implanted in our collective memory. It should come as no surprise that the dominant narrative of American history is blighted with errors and oversights—after all, history books were written by white men with their perspectives at the forefront. It could even be said that the devaluation and erasure of the Black experience is as American as apple pie. In Black AF History, Michael Harriot presents a more accurate version of American history.

Continuously Jaw Dropping
Revisado: 06-24-24
While there were a lot of facts I was aware of, the back stories on all of them are intensely enlightening and disturbing. I’ll listen to this again and assuredly learn more each time. It’s so layered. The author does a fabulous job of giving facts with anecdotal stories. I cussed a lot listening to this.
