Ward of the State: A Memoir of Foster Care tells what happened to a little Black boy from the inner city of Detroit. This is the story of Karlos Dillard, who was severely neglected by his mother, who often left him and his siblings at home alone for weeks to fend for themselves. Enduring severe neglect and abuse, the boy was removed by the State of Michigan and put into foster care. Karlos was removed from his mother's care just to end up in foster homes that treated him worse. Karlos was told he was not loved, he was not wanted, and he was nothing but a ward of the state.

Heart Breaking, but important to know.

Karlos' story is so heartbreaking, but it's such an important read. we need know where the system is broken and give it the major overhaul Karlos deserved, and all the kids in foster care current and future that kids deserve too.

A book everyone should read, more than once

This book is a lot of information and a lot to really take in, but I am already seeing so much improvement in my life. I am able to see my part in my problems with others and that enables me to know what I can do to improve my relationships in life. It's helping me in all aspects of life, from my marriage and kids, to friends, parents and inlaws, church relationships and appropriate work relationships as well.
