Historia
Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has purely obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can't turn off. Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn't help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush.

For Your Mental Health
Revisado: 04-21-25
This book was very good, especially for the age it was written for (11+). It was an emotional and powerful read for me and I wish I had read it when I was a teenager. It deals with mental illness and bullying, without going too in depth. I feel it was very relateable (even though I have grandchildren older than the target audience). Although it is alluded to that the main charachter(Jr in high school) has sex, it is in no way explicit. I would definitely recommend.

Historia
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

I am not not a fan of a back and forth timeline but the author did an excellent job weaving in the timelines. Would definitely recommend.

Glad I saw it thru...
Revisado: 03-31-25
This romantasy took at least half the book to grab me. Not sure if it was the actual story or if it was the distractingly over dramatic narration of the female narrator. Almost dnf, but about halfway thru either the story improved or I became used to the annoying narration ... either way I am glad I finished.

Historia
A Navy captain near the end of a decorated career, Stephen Rensselaer is disciplined, intelligent, and determined always to do what’s right. In defending the development of a new variant of warship, he makes an enemy of the president of the United States, who assigns him to command the doomed line’s only prototype—Athena, Patrol Coastal 15—with the intent to humiliate a man who should have been an admiral. Rather than resign, Rensselaer takes the new assignment in stride.

A story within a story within a story
Revisado: 01-26-24
It is an awesome story within a story within a story. Yes, it's a war story, a love story, and a history of the sea (Navy). As I have no knowledge to base such things on, I will say that the depictions of naval warfare feel authentic. This is the first modern war (ISIS) story I've read. I mostly stick with WWII. Very well written. If you enjoy the sea and naval combat, you will definitely enjoy this read. If you are reading for the love story, you will probably think there isn't enough love and too much sea and war. I still recommend it.

Disappointing narration
Revisado: 01-05-23
Read with little influction, giving illusion that text was JUST words. Background noise distracting (ie, pages turning). Story was good, but wish I had bought the actual book and read it myself. I would have returned this audiobook if I hadn't wanted to know the story, so I finished with the distracting narration.

At a time when the hottest issue in US immigration law is the proposed action by President Obama to protect from deportation as many as five million illegals in the United States, the John Lennon case takes on special relevance, notwithstanding the passage of 40 years since he was placed in deportation proceedings. This is John and Yoko's incredible story, as told by the lawyer who fought in the front lines.

Historia
This is the story of an artist who was willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of art. In much of its general outline, this famous novel follows the life of Paul Gauguin, famous French post-impressionist painter, but it is not a novelized biography of Gauguin. Rather it is a sharply-delineated, carefully wrought "private life", written by one of the most vivid and penetrating contemporary literary masters.

Would definitely recommend for Maugham readers, art lovers, and those not offended by racist comments.
I particularly liked the first-person narrative voice, which captured me with its ironic mix of admiration and disdain for the main character, Strickland. I've never read/listened to any Maugham before this, but I do enjoy his talent and will read more of his work
