Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Government malice throughout
Revisado: 03-09-24
A remarkable story about a truly remarkable man. What mostly come to mind with much of the tragic theme through the story is an addage my father related: never give a government agency a power you would not give to your worst enemy.
The itnerpretive malice of the militay security and FBI throughout the book is proof of my father’s addage.

Historia
Arthur Youngblood Hawke, an ex-Navy man moves from rural Kentucky to New York to assault the citadel of New York publishing with his first novel, an oversized manuscript that becomes an instant success. Toasted by critics and swept along on a tide of popularity, he gives himself over to the lush life that gilds artistic success. Love comes with an affair with an older married woman and an unfulfilled flame with his editor, while wealth pours in with the publication of his second novel, and participation in real-estate developments.

A highly entertaining first half
Revisado: 07-27-22
The first half of the book is highly entertaining with some very interesting and amusing characters. The second half of the book meanders about with occasional bright spots. The narrator does a spectacular job.

Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

The last paragraph of the book is fiction??
Revisado: 05-15-22
May 14, 2022 -I've read the book, I'm reading the Epilogue and the last paragraph states this obvious fabrication, "in the fall of 2022 Nikita started his first year at one of Americas top art and design schools" Then the credits refers to the book as a true account.....WTF!

Historia
Winston Churchill is generally considered one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century, revered for his opposition to appeasement, his defiance in the face of German bombing of England, his political prowess, and his memorable speeches. He became the savior of his country, as prime minister during the most perilous period in British history, World War II, and is now perhaps even more beloved in America than in England. This revelatory book takes on Churchill in his entirety, separating the man from the myth that he so carefully cultivated.

A few facts and a quote in context, would be nice.
Revisado: 01-30-22
I have read number of books recounting many aspects of Churchill's life in politics and war. This one is absurd, with so few substantiating facts, continuous innuendo and endless out of context quotes, none of which he even attempts to verify the context. Some quote are as much as 300 years before the man's time with little attempt to brig relevance tothe quote. Faulting Churchill in the 30's for his failure to perfectly predict every European event leading to the Second World War stretched credulity, particularly with him getting so much of it right when no one else did. The book is nothing more than an envious socialist's ramblings and determination to sully Churchill's image in every way possible. I could not finish it.

He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

By far the best of the series
Revisado: 11-08-20
For some reason I did not find Tai-Pan until I had read the first and last of the series. My feeling now, is that is the order to read them, partly because the other two books are weak by comparison to Tai-Pan. Shogun is an interesting tale that just peters out at the end and is never picked up again in either of the following tales. Gai-Jin has many allusions to the larger than life character Dirk Struan which is neatly filled in reading Tai-Pan last, making Tai-Pan all the better tale.
Tai-Pan is loaded with characters that could easily become series on their own. Sadly, they to just fade away as do the first and last of the series.

Is this a Rocky Bullwinkle Natasha & Boris Script?
Revisado: 05-13-19
Two chapters in and I give up. The dialogue and narration is so bad, I fully expect the narrator to launch into a plot between Natasha and Boris against Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Corleone can't compete and the narrator ruins that
Revisado: 02-26-19
Who picked this guy to write this addition to the series? As bad as the narrator was, Corleone's juvenile writing and dialogue made the whole thing unlistenable and often comically so. The narrator's absurdly slow pace with all characters in the same voice, made bad dialogue even worse. The concept of the story was quite good, but so much of the writing came across as if it was originally written in another language.

I loved every moment of this book, except for the last few pages and all will be forgiven if this turns our to be a series. This book easily rivals any of the Clifton Chronicles titles. Archer so simply creates word pictures and moods better than any author all but a few.

Greaney getting far fetched on this one
Revisado: 05-27-18
The exploits of our hero on this one ventures into the comic book realm, with deeds just too much to be believable. Couple that with a tale that had several mundane sidetracks to the story and it's a yawner.
