Once again King knocks it out of the park. The symbolism in this book was visceral on so many levels. Personally loved the new narrator’s take on Holly’s voice and expression. Highly recommend.

Man. I usually whip thru King books but this one was different. Took me two weeks to force myself to listen to the last 1.5 hours of the book because I knew what was coming.

Brilliantly written. I had the heebie jeebies for weeks.

King Obsessed

I cant even write a review… haha jk yes I can. But excuse the typos because I am manic and it is 15 degrees where I am and my hands are struggling to answer the pull of my brain to put this into words.

Lets just say I have listened to 29 Stephen King Audiobooks since May. Onto sweet 30! #voraciousforstephenking #putitinmhbrainmeat

This man is the Dumas, Cervantes, Homer, Twain, Orwell, Tolstoy.. you get my drift.. of our generation. How did I not start reading his work until I was 40.. I want to palm strike all of the critics that stuck him in the “horror” genre because NO WRITER has ever captured this era’s Neurodiversity, trauma, and social turmoil in more of an authentic narrative ever.

This has to be in my top five favorite works of his yet. I know I have a-lot to go but good lord! I cant get enough!!!

I read alot. An absurd amount. At least 150 books a year. I also have ptsd so I avoided King because of an unsupervised watching of the IT adaptation when I was 7. Needless to say, all of that fear has been completely resolved and I want to thank King for giving people like me a real voice in this world.

His respect for the power of language. His ability to give life to different trauma responses, to create neurodiverse characters that are represented accurately.. HOW?!? It is.. well… frankly mind blowing. Thank you!!! I love your brain! And writing! And stories! Thank you Mr. King!

Why did I wait so long

Reading this book after experiencing the covid-19 pandemic gives me a new respect for the minds of writers. I always assumed King was ‘horror’ which had made me hesitant to read his work.

But to isolate him to one rigid box or genre would be a disservice. The representation of the beauty of neurodiversity, how trauma weaponizes delicate minds, the importance of social emotional intelligence, mindfulness, sustainability… I am frankly in awe.

I am writing this review stream of consciousness style so forgive any typos or incomplete thoughts.. I am still processing all that I read. Looking forward to reading it through again in a few months to see what else this text has to offer. So much to unpack.

Definitely just made one of my top 10 all time faves up there with Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo, Cervante’s Don Quixote,and Tolstoy’s War and Peace as essential texts to read for anyone fascinated by the human condition.

I havent laughed so hard in a while

I am used to ‘trauma romance’ JA Huss. So this was so incredibly unexpected but hilarious!

I love that she still delved into neurodiverse themes regarding anxiety, body dysmorphia and possibly some ADHD in the main character.

McClain killed it with rounding out the story!

Trauma, Romance, Challenging Belief Systems, Hope

Growing up, my family always referred to romance novels as mindless trash. Looking back, alot of it was. But this new(er) brand of romance is actually very mindful.

The beginning of the story was a little confusing to me, but I feel that it was appropriate as the author shifted fantasy to reality. The cloudiness of imagery to the concrete as the three characters found their place and authenticity with one another.

From sexual identity, disabilities, dismantling toxic belief systems, and addressing quality of life through sense of community and acceptance.. this book hit every point.

Absolutely adored this. Thank you for writing about hard topics and making it accessible.

Like watching a movie in fast forward

The bones of this story are good. There is a lot the author has to work with, but I just felt the void of details and depth. I guess I needed more of the psychological connective tissue for the story to really come alive for me. There are so many points that could have been really built up that fell flat.

Will still check out some other works by this author as they do have potential. Keeping an open mind.

Sweet Story

You can’t go wrong with a book narrated by Andi A. The story is really sweet and accessible on many levels. But, for me, the timeframe considering the trauma based storyline wasn’t realistic.

Obviously suspension of disbelief is needed when reading any fiction, but I can’t help feeling like there could have been more to this story.

That being said, I would definitely recommend this to someone who is beginning to dabble into darker romance themed stories.

Queen of Trauma 🔥JA Huss 🔥

I get why the theme of this book could trigger people, especially in contrast with the title.

This is the EPITOME of “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” And yes, the theme is dark.. but the way Huss ties it all together psychologically is really fascinating. Maybe my own battle with PTSD gives me a strange viewpoint, particularly being a sexual assault survivor, but truly. The way our brains twist and turn to cope with trauma is far from vanilla.

Again I stand firm with my favorite Trauma Romance authors being JA Huss and TM Frazier. This book had me engrossed for hours. Stoked for Mr. Corporate
