Historia
This is a true story. A transparent story of the life of a young man in America, who, like many of our lost youth, found his way into the drug culture. This story is an autopsy into the mind, heart, and soul of an addict. It begins at childhood and takes us through the thoughts, turmoil, and inner conflicts of a person lost in the undercurrent of addiction, and ends in a climax of self-discovery and realization. It is a gripping tale of a suburban youth and his journey through the streets of Baltimore, institutions, prisons, addiction, and worst of all, his own mind.

don't bother
Revisado: 04-24-21
This is a typical story. Save your money and talk to a couple of heroin addicts. You can find them at any 12 step meeting. Nothing in this book stood out or surprised me at all. It maybe could have been saved if they would have picked a narrarator that didn't sound like he was 70 years old and knew anything about the subject matter he was reading about (yes it was that obvious, he literally called 2 Pac, 2 Pack along with a host of other mispronunciations) This gave way to the obvious bad editing for when he really screwed up and they made him read a line or two over again and then just dubbed it in sometimes sounding like an entirely different guy started reading for 3 or 4 seconds just to go back to the same guy for 2 sentences until he had the same thing he couldn't pronounce make ghost reader guy pop back in for 3 more seconds. It was AWFUL.... sometimes I wonder who decides to cast these narrarators. If the author doesn't narrarate their own biography they should at least make an attempt to cast someone like the author. I mean this guy was a young white thug in the late 90's and they got someone who sounds like should be narrarating a book on WW2 reading it. It really ruins it.

Historia
In the South, you always say “yes, ma’am” and “no, ma’am.” You know everybody’s business. Football is a lifestyle, not a pastime. Food — especially dessert — is almost a religious experience. And you protect your friends as fiercely as you protect your family — even if the threat is something you cannot see.

Somebody give the narrarator some water
Revisado: 04-18-21
I still have 3 hours to go with this mediocre story and don't know if I can finish because this narrarator keeps swallowing her spit, making mouth noises and running out of breath. This is a terrible audio book. Eveything about it screams ameture. WARNING WARNING!! I will also NEVER listen to a book read. by this narrarator. My device is about to get thrown against the wall because this woman is so hard to listen to. I have had elementary school teachers that would have made better narrarators. Does this woman know how to read a punctuation mark? Does she even know she is being recorded? slirp.... swallow.... half of sentence before a gasp of air.... WTH?

Historia
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Its no Gone Girl, but its ok
Revisado: 04-14-21
I gave a 3 star review of the story because Flinn set the bar too high with Gone Girl, now everything else that I have read has been mediocre at best. not a waste, but don't go into this story expecting anything TOO great. That said, if a different author had written it, I probably wouldn't be so harsh.

A canny young woman is struggling to survive by perpetrating various levels of mostly harmless fraud. On a rainy April morning, she is reading auras at Spiritual Palms when Susan Burke walks in. A keen observer of human behavior, our unnamed narrator immediately diagnoses beautiful, rich Susan as an unhappy woman eager to give her lovely life a drama injection. However, when the "psychic" visits the eerie Victorian home that has been the source of Susan’s terror and grief, she realizes she may not have to pretend to believe in ghosts anymore.

Like any other teenager, Jess Flynn is just trying to get through her junior year without drama...but drama seems to keep finding her. Swickley is getting weirder by the day, too. Half the population has been struck down by a mysterious flu. Conversations end awkwardly when Jess enters the room.

Revisado: 03-01-21
The plot was good, the narrarator incredible but I felt like I just listened to the first two or three chapters of an unfinished book. A book that I was really enjoying which overall made the whole thing disappointing.

Revisado: 02-27-21
I almost feel guilty for enjoying this book as much as I did. it is very dark. the ending seemed a little rushed, but I think the writer wrote himself into a corner. the narrarator was good with characters, but was hard to listen to. he mispronounced things and a but halfway through the book I wanted to punch someone everything he said NOTE! I suppose some of that is the authors fault for overusing his little footnotes inserted in the story.

great narraration
Revisado: 01-13-21
Bach has not only written a great piece of literature he also narrirates in a way proving his skills as a true entertainer. While Sebatian Bach's career has been a little more watered down like many other rockers this memoir does not fail to disappoint told by the music, tv and Broadway legend himself from what sounds like off the cuff from his lips to your ears. This has joined the ranks of my fave memoirs.

loved it
Revisado: 01-04-21
although I was a die hard GNR fan since High School, I fell in love with Steven Adler as a person when he was on Celebrity rehab. He was so real. And so is this book. I understand why he didn't narrate it himself because as he mentions in the book he had a stroke years back and it sometimes makes him hard to understand. But I did take one star away for the narraration because I could tell at times (just by knowing the way Adler speaks) the tone was misinterpreted. But a very minor detail.
